We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Bertha Sarah Kennedy (née Brown). She passed away on August 28, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by her family in her 100th year. Bertha was predeceased by her loving husband, Bernard, in 2004. She is survived by her beloved children John Kennedy (Loretta) and Nancy Carrique (James), her adoring grandchildren Lauren Carrique (Mike), Patrick Carrique (Michael), Jennifer Carrique (Nathan), Andrew Kennedy and Kathleen Kennedy, and her great-grandson August Meadows.
Since the day Bertha was born in 1925 in Saint Patrick’s, Quebec, the main pillar of her life was her family. Her happy childhood was spent ‘down home’ on the family farm with her close-knit family of 9 siblings. She later moved to Montreal where she settled down and raised her family. In her retirement years, Bertha and Bernie moved to Kitchener, Ontario to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Always a believer in doing good for others, she was an active volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society and in her local church, St. Anthony Daniel. Her final years were spent at Luther Village on the Park. Her family is so grateful for the kind care she received there. In addition, the family would like to express gratitude to the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for their compassionate care in her final days.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a memorial mass at St. Anthony Daniel R.C. Church on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
