Bertha was born on May 12, 1924 in the rural community of Melancthon
township just south of Collingwood Ontario to Elizabeth Allen and Charles
Hunking. She was the second youngest of 8 children and she spent her young
life growing up on the farm.
On June 11, 1949 she was married to Harold Jackson in Shelburne Ontario.
The two of them moved to Toronto to start their new lives together. Her days
were busy during those early years raising 5 (Ruth, Philip, Mary Lou, Lois,
Janice) children and working part time to help support a growing family. She
always felt that those were the best days of her life. Education was always
important to her and after her children were grown she went back to school
and earned her BA (Bachelor of Arts) and her E.C.E. ( Early Childhood
Education) degree.
One of her great joys in life was spending time with her 12 grandchildren and 9
great grandchildren.
The church was always a big part of her life. Bertha’s unwavering faith in God
gave her courage, strength and hope throughout her life.
