Bernice Sims Obituary
With her children by her side, Bernice Sims passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, at Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound. Born in Sydenham Township on July 1, 1932, Bernice filled her 92 years with love, laughter, and a zest for life.
She was the beloved wife of Art McDermid and loving mother to Gary Sims (Donna) of Owen Sound, Sharon Vokes (Merv) of Owen Sound, and Shelley Horton (Kelly) of Chatsworth. She was a treasured grandmother to Cheryl (Shane), Tammy (Mike), Jeff (Courtney), Brent (Jesse), Carissa (Jon), and Justin (Julia), and a proud great-grandmother to Hailey, Wyatt, Rhys, Griffin, Reed, Adelyn, Autumn, Lincoln, Logan, Hunter, and Avery. Bernice will also be missed by her sister-in-law, Doreen Barclay, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by her former husbands, Ivan Sims and Archie Leigh, her parents, William and Christina Barclay, and her brother, Glenn Barclay.
Bernice’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Her love for family, friends, music, and dancing brought joy to everyone around her. In her memory, let us raise a glass to celebrate the warmth and laughter she shared, leaving an unforgettable mark on our lives.
Visitation will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a funeral service celebrating Bernice’s life at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Lunch following at Chatsworth Legion.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation or Grey Bruce Hospice – Chapman House are welcomed. Condolences may be shared with Bernice’s family on her memorial page at www.woodfuneralhome.ca.
