Bernard, beloved husband of Juliette, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 87 years of age. Bernard was born at Tweedsmuir, SK to Gerald and Jean (nee Wall) Godin.
Bernard grew up in Prince Albert along with his sisters Bernice, Loretta and Audrey. Early in his life, he suffered the loss of his mother in 1943 and his sister Loretta in 1947. His father, Gerald remarried Florence Phaneuf at which time Bernard gained three stepbrothers, Edmour, Victor and Eugene.
After Bernard graduated high school in 1955, he attended the University of Saskatchewan. He convocated with a Commerce degree and later obtained his professional accounting designation.
Bernard married Juliette, the love of his life, on July 21, 1958 in Prince Albert. They moved to Saskatoon and were blessed with four children, Loretta, Dan, Kathy and Bryon.
Bernard started his accounting career in Saskatoon as an auditor with Revenue Canada. Soon after, he started working at the accounting firm A.J. Gossen & Company, where he soon became a partner. Bernard moved to the Yorkton branch in 1965 with his family to manage the Yorkton office. In 1972, Bernard acquired the Yorkton accounting firm, renaming it G.B. Godin, C.A. and operated a successful accounting business until he retired in 2001.
After retirement, Bernard and Julie moved to Medicine Hat, AB where they lived until 2015. Wanting to be closer to family, they made the move to Regina, where they resided until his passing.
Bernard will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Julie; daughter Loretta (Scott) Turner; son Dan (Caren) Godin, grandchildren Robert and Baillie; daughter Kathy (widow of Russell) Boychuk, grandson Chad (Angelina), great-grandson Theo, grandson Travis (Angelia); and son Bryon (Brenda) Godin, grandson Russell (Jennifer), granddaughter Makayla (Will), great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Kyler; and granddaughter Jenna (Jason), great-granddaughter Yorke Jaycee, Zoey.
Bernard was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Jean; stepmother Florence; sisters Loretta, Audrey and Bernice; stepbrothers Edmour, Victor and Eugene; as well as numerous extended family members.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Resurrection R.C. Parish, 3155 Windsor Park Road, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernard’s memory may be made to Chalice, 101-26 Union St., Bedford, NS B4A 2B5 or at chalice.ca.
