Chisholm, Bernard Joseph
«Bernie», age 75 of Malignant Cove
passed away on August 3rd, 2023, at St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late John Gorman
and Mary Florence (MacGillivray) Chisholm.
Bernie began fishing off Malignant Cove in his own boat in
1968 up until his retirement just a couple of years ago. An avid
hunter, trapper and sport fisherman, his love of the outdoors and
being on the water followed him into his personal life also.
He was a member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard and participated in the
Ocean Foundation’s Tag-A-Giant Fund committed to reversing
the decline of northern bluefin tuna populations.
He is survived by his children Kenny (Allison), Malignant
Cove, Tanya (Greg) Beairsto, Kensington, PEI, Kenzie MacNeil
(Marlene), Little Bras D’or; sister Isabelle McKinnon, Ontario;
grandchildren Madison, Khalee, Gorman, John Angus, Nicole, Kristen,
Ashlyn; and great grandchild, Lizzie.
He was predeceased by his wife Hughena; great grandchild
Layla; sister Catherine MacPhie; brother-in-law John M. MacPhie; and
sisters-in-law, Anna Wadman and Mary Janet MacDonald.
Visitation will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish, NS on Wednesday August
9th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
Funeral Mass with be held Thursday, August
10th at 10:00 am in St. George’s
Church in Georgeville with Reverend Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial to
follow in St. George’s Cemetery, Georgeville.
Donations in memory may be made to St. George’s
Church, Georgeville or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Bernie’s family would like to recognize the
compassionate care provided by staff of both St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital, Antigonish and the Victoria General Hospital,
Halifax throughout his illness.
