Benoît’s Obituary
Benoît Florian Lachance, long time resident of Falher (AB) passed away on May 24, 2024 at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre in McLennan (AB), at 94 years of age.
Born in Ste-Justine-Langevin (Dorchester) in Québec, as a child moved (June 1931) to Opasatika in Ontario. He was 13 years old when the family moved to Guy in Alberta (1943). He moved to Falher around 1951.
Benoît enjoyed his fishing & hunting, while working for Emile Vandal at Falher’s John Deere Dealership. Add gardening, mending, baking, cooking!
He was a «Jack of all Trades», always looking for new opportunities. If if was broken, he wanted to fix it; he even rebuilt a tractor that had burnt down.
Benoît was ALWAYS ready to lend a helping hand.
His education stated a Benoit School in Guy; later in life he acquired his Journeyman Carpenter Certificate (1974) which led him to join the union and work several years in Fort McMurray (AB). His membership with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters spanned over 50 years.
Benoît was predeceased by his parents Amanda (Brisson) & Fortunat Lachance; brothers Fernand & Germain; sisters Laurette, Sr. Aimée-Rose Lachance, Thérèse Drouin, Mariette Giroux-Rowland, Anita Laurin and baby Gaëtane; brothers-in-law Fernand Drouin, Fred Mastroianni, Claude Boucher, Delphé Laurin and André Giroux.
He is survived by his brothers Nelson (Suzanne) Lachance of Guy, Romain of Edmonton and André of High Prairie, Clarence; sisters Armande Thivierge of Cambridge (ON), Jaqueline Van Audenhaege of Chelsea (QC), Gaëtane Boucher of Sherwood Park (AB), Claudette Lachance and Lorraine Mastroianni of Hamilton (ON), Françoise (Dave) Solomon of St. Albert; many nephews; and, many neices.
A Private Celebration for Benoît will be held, at a later time.
