Stephen Douglas Beeston, age 75, died on March 19, 2024, at his home in Dunnville, Ontario after a brief illness. A celebration of life will be held later.
Stephen (“Steve”), and his slightly older twin brother John, were born on July 7, 1948, to Frank and Helen (McGill) on Pine Street, in Welland, Ontario. Steve is survived by his four siblings Paul (Kaye), Susie (Paul), Mary Ellen (Ken), and John (Kathy, dec.). Steve was always fond of the memories made together around Chippewa Park, at Camp Wanakita, and at Welland High.
At the age of 22, Steve met the love of his life, Joanne Pogson, age 18, at her family cottage on Lake Erie in Dunnville, and they married on February 5, 1972. Steve and Joanne lived and worked in Niagara Falls, New York, Steve as a painter with Joanne’s father, greeting his customers each day with a smile. Steve and Joanne spent their free time together at their cottage, surrounded by friends and family. Steve is predeceased by his parents, and his brothers-in-law, Bruce and Greg Pogson, who were always in his heart and mind.
Steve was a family man, and together with Joanne, they raised four children, Ryan (Eva Horn), Aaron, Sean (Amy Belcamino), and Meghan (Jason Rynberk). Steve had a lifetime love of hockey, and when not at the arena, convening, refereeing, or coaching, he was there supporting his boys in hockey and daughter in figure skating. Later in life he shared that love with his grandchildren. Steve shared a special bond with each of his children and his grandchildren, Cameron and Jacob (Meghan), and Shelby and Benjamin (Sean). Spending time with them and watching them play and grow, at their sports and at the lake, brought him great joy.
Everyone who knew Steve, knows he had a love of music – the classics, the nostalgic, and the unique – which was always playing in the background. Steve will also be remembered for his childhood stories, his random knowledge, and his cooking. Steve will be greatly missed but he will be remembered for his sense of humour and his desire to make people happy. Our love for him will live on in our memories forever.
