Barry Dillon
Surrounded by his loving family, Barry Dillon passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2024.
Born Thomas James Barry Dillon in Timmins, ON to Marie Dodds and Clarence Dillon, the
family moved to Fort William, ON in 1961.
At 19, Barry earned his pilot’s wings, and proudly served as an Air Force cadet. He graduated
from Westgate High School, and received his Civil Engineering Technician diploma from
Confederation College in 1970. Barry was a long time member of the Army Navy Air Force
Veterans Club in Thunder Bay.
A missed bus leading to a chance encounter, Barry met Beverley Bryk in 1977. They bonded
over a shared love of music and cleanliness, and married on June 9, 1979. Together they raised
their three children in a home full of love, compassion, and Pink Floyd.
Barry worked in civil engineering for many years for different organizations including the Ministry
of Transport and Ontario Hydro. He worked out of town as necessary, but his heart was always
in Thunder Bay with his family. He retired from Bombardier in 2019 after an accumulated 25
years there.
A fiercely devoted family man, Barry was happiest spending time with his wife, children and
grandchildren – attending school events, kids’ sports, or chauffeuring. Bev and Barry loved to go
hunting for deals together, and could be seen on the yard sale circuit on the weekends. When
his children were young, he volunteered and fund raised for the Thunder Bay Judo Club,
Thunder Bay Thunderbolts and Thunder Bay Gymnastics.
In his down time, Barry was an avid reader, with his nose in a book at any spare moment. His
favourite books to read were ‘sword and sorcery’ and shared this passion for reading with his
children and grandchildren.
Barry is survived by his wife Beverley, children Patrick, Raiili (Josh) Pellizzari and Christopher;
his grandchildren Hayleigh Cory and Grace, Gemma and Tatum Pellizzari; his siblings Susan
Zack, Sharon (Conrad) Hagstrom, Michael Dillon, Joanne Dillon; and his niece and nephews
Trina Rumsey, Ed Rumsey, Carl (Sara) Hagstrom and Chris (Kayla) Hagstrom, and their
children.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on May 7 at 10:30 a.m. with family and friends at St. Agnes Parish,
followed by a reception in the church hall.
Interment will follow at a later date.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Drs. Sellick and Ibrahim and the nurses in the
Cancer Centre at TBRHSC for providing care with compassion and respect this past year.
To Gaby Belda, home care nurse – your knowledge and expertise is only surpassed by your
giant heart. Thank you for your guidance and genuine care for Barry.
If friends desire, donations may be made to Shelter House or the Dew Drop Inn.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
