It is with great sadness that the family of Barry Detenbeck announce his passing on March 12, 2024, at Huronview in Clinton, ON. During Barry’s final days, he was surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Barry is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Gayle Detenbeck (Hayman), his brother Jim (Valerie) and sister Laurie (Ralph). Barry loved his family and was the proud father of Paul (Maria), Jenn (Simon) and Laura (Rob). He was a loving and treasured Grandpa to his five grandsons Noah, Xavier, Aiden, Sawyer, and Beckett and his granddaughter Devonee. He will also be missed by his dog and loving companion, Maggie.
Barry was born May 10, 1949, in Fort Erie, Ontario to Norma and Rod Detenbeck. While still in his teens, Barry met Gayle in Belleville Ontario, and a life-long love story began that was beautifully written for 58 years.
Barry loved being outdoors, travelling, working with his hands and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He packed up his family and chased camping adventures across Canada from coast to coast and made many Disneyworld memories in Florida. Barry and Gayle retired young, moved to Gayle’s family cottage in Bayfield, ON and made it their own. With their family grown up, they were free to pursue their true passion for world travelling. They camped all around the USA and explored many countries around the world by bike, train, car, and foot. Back in Bayfield, Barry could always be found working on a project outside, cleaning up the Bayfield trails and cheering on the Leafs alongside Don Cherry on the tv. His legacy of living life to the fullest and having unconditional love for his family will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Together we would like to thank his wonderful friends and the doctors, nurses, PSW’s and staff at Huronview who cared for him with compassion and laughter and helped make his difficult journey easier.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be held to honour his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society (www.alzheimer.ca/huronperth/) or the Bayfield River Valley Trail Association (www.bayfieldtrails.com) would be appreciated.
