Obituary
Barrie Morell Rahn
Of Courtenay, died peacefully July 24, at Nanaimo Regional Hospital, of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Miller Fisher variant. He was 75. Beloved husband of Mary Diane Keeling and loving father of David John and grandchildren Matthew Barry, Zoe Nicole, and Sophie Rose of the San Jose, California area.
Born September 19, 1947, to Otto John Rahn and Jerrine Polly Appleby in Owen Sound. Loved dearly by siblings Jack (deceased), Jane Hergott of Kitchener, Judy Penner of Owen Sound, Robert Rahn of Hanover, Ontario, and Ruth Bindas of Ohio.
Barrie loved fishing, was a good skier, played hockey for many years, and enjoyed good food, and drink. He worked for Nortel Communications, 15 years in Canada and fifteen years in Mountain View, California. Barrie and his wife, Diane were childhood sweethearts and were married for 55 years. They moved to the Comox Valley in 1999, and many relatives and friends enjoyed visiting their sea-side home.
Barrie was a very social guy, and he had many friends in the area. He was easy to talk with and very steady-going. To have been hit by this terrible disease in his golden years is truly heartbreaking. He wanted us to thank all the medical staff who attended him.
A small gathering at our home to remember Barrie will be held in the Fall. He was an amazing individual.
