Barbara Aletta ‘Lettie’ Martens (Kriebel) of Winnipeg passed away, January 4th, 2023 at Riverview Medical Centre with her sister Sandra and close friend Carol at her side.
She was born in Winnipeg, to parents Aart and Barbara Kriebel on October 22nd, 1961. She attended Kildonan East for High School, where she also pursued and passed her hairstyling course. Hairstyling became a passion, working in the field for 45 years. Being known as the chatty one, she truly loved her work and her clients, many of them becoming close friends. Her true passion however, was her family.
Barb is survived by her children Andria Martens (Justin Managh) and Aaron Martens and his friend Sheadyn and by her two grandchildren Keira and Keegan Managh.
She is also survived by her sisters Sandra Kriebel (Rhoda), Kim Hamilton-Atkinson (Fitz), nieces and nephews; Karmelle (Josh), Samara (Kaylan), Tiffany (Beau) Adam (Stacey) and great nieces and nephews, Kellen, Willow, River, Arcadia and Ziah. As well as a tight extended family and many close friends.
Barbara was predeceased by parents, Aart and Barbara Kriebel and sister Jackie.
Barb had worked in a few places. She ran her own shop during the early 90s, Evangeline’s on Selkirk Ave. Later moving to Lucas’ in the Northgate mall, and staying as it changed to Touch of Europe. Her last places of employment being Magicuts and Carriage House. She made many friends during these times and was always warm, friendly, and inviting to all. She spent much of her time working, even going out to clients’ homes, leaving not much time for hobbies though she would never turn down a good movie and would relax at night with a good book.
Her most precious time, however, would have been spent with family, watching her grandchildren grow, being a supportive sister, mother, aunt and friend; she leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Her light will be forever missed.
We would like to send a special thank you to all the doctors and nursing staff, from the Cancer Care Blood Clinic, Health Science Centre and Riverview for all their care and kindness during her illness.
Barb did not want to have a sad, formal funeral; instead, a big Celebration of Life in the summer when family from afar will be able to attend. Cremation has taken place.
