Obituary
Barbara Mary Ryan, of Pasadena passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on July 23, 2023.
Barbara was born on September 12, 1963, to Patrick and Elizabeth Ryan in Pasadena, Newfoundland. Barbara is survived by her three sisters Dianne Turner (Barry) of Pasadena, NL, Stella Gillard (Darron) of Pasadena, NL, Ann Margaret Hulan (Burt) of Abbottsford, BC, and her three brothers, Cecil Ryan (Andy Pimpinella) of Toronto, ON, Joseph Ryan (Sherry) of London, ON and Patrick Ryan (Lynda Mclean) of Brampton, ON. She will be missed by her three nephews, Gregory Gillard (Jenna), Jonathon Turner and Allen Mclean (April Salisbury-White) and her four nieces, Emily Gillard (Aaron Howell), Kaitlyn Walsh (Matt), Rebecca Ryan (Ben Hussey), Bryanna Ryan (Tyler Berger) and two great-nephews, Brody Ash and Theo Gillard.
Barbara worked her entire career at the College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville, as a Baking Program Instructor. She started in the kitchen and obtained red seal credentials in both Baking and Cooking and a Diploma from Memorial University of Newfoundland. This kick started a long wonderful career in teaching. She ended her career as the Cooking Apprentice Instructor for the Province of NL. She was the first female to win medals in local, regional and provincial Culinary Competitions. She was a founding member of the NL and Labrador Chefs Association and a three-time Western NL Chef of the Year. It was during her time at the College of the North Atlantic that she met many of her lifelong friends.
Throughout her journey, Barb lived a life defined by her unyielding commitment to helping others. Her innate ability to empathize with those facing hardships was matched only by her genuine desire to uplift and support them in their times of need. Whether it was offering a listening ear, lending a helping hand, or sharing her own resources, she always found ways to make a difference in the lives of those around her.
Family and friends were at the core of her life, and she showered them with love and care that knew no boundaries. Many found solace in her nurturing embrace during their most challenging moments. As we say farewell to our beloved Barbie, let us remember her with fondness and gratitude. May her memory be a guiding light, inspiring us to be kinder, more empathetic, and always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need. In doing so, we honor her remarkable legacy and ensure that her compassion continues to ripple through the world.
A celebration of Barbara’s life service with close friends and family will take place on Thursday, July 27th, 2023, at 10:30 am, with Father Anthony officiating with the Inurnment to follow at the Roman Catholic cemetery in North Harbor Road, Pasadena,
