JUNE 1, 1944 – JUNE 16, 2023
Born in St. Catharines, Ontario Barbara June Gale was the second of four children born to Robert Senior and Ida Gale. Growing up in Niagara Falls, Barb was known for her love of music – usually found by a jukebox and always the first to sing a tune or sashay to the dance floor.
A fiercely independent and empathetic woman Barb obtained her Registered Nurse designation at the Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1965. Beginning her career as an RN with the Canadian Armed Forces, Barb took a brief step back – spending a year with CUSO International in Africa, and a year at Hamilton General Hospital – before returning to the military where her passion lay.
Barb’s military career carried her all over the world before her retirement in 1995 after which she settled in Brighton, Ontario. For many years Barb was a very involved member of the Brighton community – volunteering for organizations such as Meals on Wheels – before returning to Niagara Falls in early 2022.
Barb is fondly remembered by her three brothers Keith (Janice), David (Susan), and Bob (Vera), and her many nieces and nephews. The Gale family is particularly indebted to her best friend, Beverley Anderson, who has been such a steadfast and integral presence in Barb’s life for almost fifty years.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The War Amps or the Niagara Community Foundation (quoting “Barbara Gale Seniors & Youth Fund”).
