Heaven has welcomed an angel, Barbara Helen Mouncey (Lemoire). She passed away peacefully at Regency Long Term Care Facility on Sunday, September 29, 2024 in her 98th year. Loving wife of the late Trevor Mouncey (2015) and cherished mother of Karen Sanders and Lynn Haas (Brian). Dear grandmother of Carol Benetin, Andrea Sanders (Kyle Anderson) and Sheri Sanders. Precious great grandmother of Kayla, Kaitlyn, Owen, Skye and Jillian. Predeceased by siblings, Doreen Kemp, Paul, Donald Laverne, Frank, and stepbrother of Arthur Wheeler.
Lifelong friend of Marita Cowley (Leahy) and her daughters Cheryl Belanger and Sue Rehel.
Barbara’s life was one of hardship, love, kindness, service, and deep faith. As young children Barbara and her siblings, suffered the loss of their beloved mother, Madeline. Barbara and her sister were sent to an orphanage while their brothers were sent to work at various farms in the Peterborough area. The death of their mother affected all of the children.
As teenagers, mom and dad met on the bridge in Hastings Ontario. Years later, they reconnected at the water fountain while both working at Canadian General Electric in Cobourg, Ontario. Mom always described him as her handsome Richard Burton. The rest is history.
Mom loved all of us with her whole heart. Her grandchildren often said “Grandma, you hug too tight.” She remembered everyone’s birthday. Always sending cards and letters to relatives. Many of whom have recently shared “aunt Barb was my favourite!” Testaments like that have filled us with joy in the recent months.
Mom also shared her love by cooking and baking for neighbors, sick friends, the church, Elvis Presley etc. At dinner she kept inching bowls of food, closer and closer encouraging us to eat more.
Mom represented her brothers who served in the war as a member of the lady’s auxiliary of the Coburg Legion branch 133. She also volunteered at Horizon of friendship and was a member of the CWL of Saint Michael’s Church.
Knitting outfits, playing cards and darts and playing the piano were some of her favourite activities. However, she lived for Friday night bingo. If she won $10 she would share it with everyone, the highlight of mom’s life was attending church on Sunday. She had been a member of St. Michael’s Parish for 66 years prior to her dementia diagnosis. Even while residing at Regency she tried to feed others and care for the baby dolls. We wish to send a special thanks to all of the caregivers at Regency for their kindness and support over the last 12 years.
This special woman who selflessly devoted her life to others is undoubtably, resting in the arms of God.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 6:00Pm – 8:30Pm at MacCoubrey Funeral Home. When you speak of her
Speak not with tears
For thoughts of her
Should not be sad
Let memories of the times you shared
Give you comfort
For her life was rich
Because of you
