In Loving Memory of Barbara Beale (1937-2023)
Barbara May Beale, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2023, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born on October 23, 1937 to Albert and Katherine Haythorpe in Galt, Ontario, Barb was the proud mother of Cathy, Tracey, Ben and Kelly and beloved grandmother to Victoria, Caitlyn, Samantha, Tristan, Thomas, Piper, Alyssa and Kennedy. She deeply cherished her time spent with her family, her daughter-in-law, Karen, sons-in-law, Dave and Michael, and sister-in-law, Penny. Barb took immense pride in sharing stories of her children and grandchildren to her many dear friends, and similarly, shared stories and updates of the friendships she held so close to her heart with her family. Her always active social calendar included friends from every chapter of her life, including 75-year-long friendships she maintained from childhood. Her family is grateful for her circle of friends, but no one cherished each and every one of them more than Barb did herself.
Barb graduated from teachers’ college at 19-years-old. She was married at 22 for 27 years. She taught for the York Region Catholic School Board for over 20 years. She deeply cherished her teaching community of friends and continued to supply teach until she was 82-years-old. She had a natural gift of engaging children, which was never more apparent than when she became a grandmother, and built close and unique relationships with each one of her grandchildren.
She was strongly devoted to her church and spiritual connection to God, loved to entertain, socialize, travel, bake, sew, read, write, swim in her pool, and play bridge. She would never miss a special date and celebrated others at every opportunity. She was wonderful at storytelling, often of her own life challenges, and never ended a story without a life lesson she herself had learned in overcoming difficulties and challenges. The stories and lessons she would share were often to comfort others in a supportive and loving way as they navigated their own trials and tribulations. She was never lost for words, even in the most difficult of times, and so often seemed to know exactly the right thing to say. Her advice was often presented with humour and was a source of laughter to friends and family. She held strong to her convictions and would seldom allow anyone to sway her mind once it was made up, often in the most endearing of ways. She will be remembered for loving to engage in heartfelt conversations for hours.
Barb was active, vibrant, and busy managing her social life up until her very last day when she passed away from a heart attack. It is comforting to know that she departed this world in her special place of peace and happiness, in the warmth of the sunshine in her own backyard.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Barb’s life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1st, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, located at 140 Brooke St. in Thornhill, Ontario. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering a donation to Covenant House Toronto, or World Vision Canada, causes close to Barb’s heart.
