Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the sudden passing of Aurore (Dawna) Ferris, born on September 3rd, 1938. Dawna passed away with her daughter by her side on April 26th, 2023 in Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of Mederic and Elizabeth McLaughlin and was the beloved spouse of the late John (Jack) Edmund Ferris, whom she married in 1970. Together, they had a daughter named Catherine Elizabeth.
Dawna was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to helping others. She worked as a missionary in Papua New Guinea and when back in Canada continued her career as a French Teacher for 39 years. She was passionate about educating her students with the wonder of language and had an exceptional way of spreading her passion and knowledge of the language and culture to those around her. Dawna had a warm heart and enjoyed engaging in community activities.
Dawna was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Organization and Food bank volunteer who tirelessly worked to serve her community. Her selflessness and compassion touched the lives of countless people, and she will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
Dawna always remained steadfast and unwavering in her faith. She believed in the goodness of people and the power of love to overcome any obstacle. Her uplifting spirit and determination were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Dawna was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished her family above all else. Her dedication and commitment to her loved ones were unwavering, and she never missed an opportunity to show them how much she cared. She was the proud grandmother of two beautiful grandchildren Matthew (Kayleigh) and Andrew who brought her immense joy and happiness throughout her life. Dawna was exceptionally blessed with also being a great grandmother to sweet Logan.
It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to Dawna, but we take comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with loved ones who have passed on before her and that her legacy will live on through the generations of people whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 3-5 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Huntsville, Ontario. Donations can be made in her honour to Algonquin Grace Hospice Huntsville.
