Obituary of Audrey Ethel Weimer
Audrey Weimer
(1926-2023)
Audrey Masding was born on April 30th, 1926 in Lumsden, SK to parents Charles and Constance Masding and passed away on September 5th, 2023 at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Arnold; a son, Daniel; a stillborn daughter, Carol and siblings, Cedric, Marian, Stan, Joy and Lawrence (Buddy). Audrey is survived by her sons, David (Jan), Gordon (Marian), Pat (Debbie), and Paul (Lori); 8 grandchildren, Steven, Kelly, Alex, Stacey, Amanda, Zachary, Leigh and Ashley; 7 great-grandchildren, Jack, Olivia, Oliver, Finn, Kennedy, Leah, Maclan and Luke; Lorraine and Pat (sister in laws), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey grew up in difficult times during the Depression, followed by World War 2. In her early twenties, she was employed by the Gillespie Florist Shop in Regina, where she met her future husband Arnold “Arnie” Weimer and they were later married on November 6th, 1948.
In 2020 Audrey and Arnie celebrated their life together and 72 years of marriage. Audrey was the loving mother of five boys. Her family and her home were very important to her, hosting and enjoying regular suppers with family and friends, birthday and holiday festivities. The door to their home was always open.
Audrey and Arnold traveled extensively throughout Canada and internationally. These included trips to Hawaii, England, Alaska and Las Vegas as part of their many adventures and holidays together.
Audrey worked part-time for several years at Extendicare Nursing Home in Regina and several more years at Action Drugs Pharmacy in Saskatoon where she wore many hats.
Audrey and Arnie enjoyed many weekends at the lakes in Northern Saskatchewan eventually purchasing a cabin at Weyakwin Lake, for over 25 years they enjoyed the outdoors, providing wonderful memories and creating lots of lake traditions including annual New Year’s bonfires, fish fries and wiener roasts. There was always a steady stream of family and friends visiting the cabin.
Audrey was active in bowling leagues, a member of the Royal Purple and the CNIB. Audrey was also an exuberant and diehard RoughRiders fan and an avid reader before losing partial vision at 76 years old.
Audrey lived a long and full life. She will be remembered for her good nature, positive attitude and her friendly face, loved and missed by everyone who knew her. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Preston ExtendiCare Home and Luther Special Care Home who provided Audrey with care and support during her time with them. There will be no memorial service, Audrey will be laid to rest alongside her husband Arnold and son Daniel at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Audrey’s memory can be made to CNIB (Canadian National Institute for The Blind).
