After 95 years of a life well lived, Audrey Elizabeth Tarasick has left us. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Audrey, on Tuesday, September 24th, peacefully and after a short stay, at the Kingston General Hospital, with family at her side. Audrey, nee Milne, was predeceased by her parents, Hazel and Wesley Milne, sister Margaret and brother Donald. Audrey was the cherished mother of David (Susan), Catherine, Steven (Madeliene) and Leslie. She was the much beloved grandmother of Nicole, Michael (Jacki), Dara (Gordon), Lauren (Shawn), Jordana (Baruch), Daniel (Rachel), Alex, Meaghan, Rebecca, Kate, Nathan, Rachel, Matthew, and Ian and great-grandmother of Walter, Sullivan, Wesley, and Blake.
Audrey was born and educated in Toronto where she completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Toronto. She enjoyed careers which reflected her love of children, first as a teacher, then as co-founder and Director of The Child Centre in Sharbot Lake, and eventually as Director of the Limestone Childcare Centre in Kingston. She even had a side career at one point, crafting whimsical toys which were sold in many children’s stores. Audrey was for many years a loyal member of “Grandmothers by the Lake” (for African grandmothers), another reflection of her generous and caring nature.
Audrey was an adventurous spirit who proudly lived life on her own terms. She lives on in all of us, forever in the hearts of those family and friends that got to experience her beautiful personality and love of life and family. Everyone in her family will have a different story of Audrey in nature, whether it’s sitting in a bird blind in the field or looking for wildflowers and mushrooms on her walks in the woods. We have all benefitted from knowing this gentle soul and we will laugh, smile and cry again each time we think of her. Family and friends revelled in coming together this summer to joyously celebrate the 95th birthday of this remarkable woman who lived independently in her own home until the present day.
The family is thankful for the wonderful care and compassion received from all staff who tended to her at the Kingston General Hospital.
There will be no service, however, online condolences can be shared at www.goodfellowsfuneralhome.com. Family will come together at a future date to celebrate Audrey’s life. For those who wish to remember Audrey, think of her next time you take a walk on a trail, tend to your flower garden, or smile at a child.
