Audrey Eileen Hube Audrey Hube passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 5th, 2023 at the Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville, after a beautiful life of 92 years. She was surrounded by her loving family who will forever be grateful to have had a chance to hold her hand and say goodbye, one last time. Audrey was born on Easter Sunday on April 12th, 1931 at the KW Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario. She was the youngest of five children born to George and Edith Wilfong. Audrey is predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Dorothy, Margaret(Peggy), and Marion, and her brother James. Audrey lived in Kitchener from the time she was born until she married. She attended Centreville and Sunnyside Public Schools. After graduating from KW Collegiate in 1948 Audrey worked at Waterloo Trust and then at E.E. Seegmiller. Audrey spent many summers vacationing at her family cottage at Hope Bay. She often went to Sauble Beach which was close by. It was at Sauble Beach in the summer of 1950 where she met Ron Hube, a young man who had been spending his summers at Sauble Beach since he was born. Audrey and Ron met at the dance hall in Sauble Beach and dated on and off for a few years. In 1954 they began dating “seriously” and became engaged. Audrey and Ron were married on Friday, April 15th, 1955 in Kitchener. They remained happily married for 67 years until Ron’s passing in 2022. Audrey and Ron began their life as newlyweds in Savant Lake. It was the first of many places they called home. They also lived in Fordwich, Grimsby, Manitouwadge, Marathon, and Garson before moving to Muskoka in 1972. They made many lifelong friends along the way. They welcomed four children – Tom(1956), Leanne(1961), Penny(1964), and Andrea(1965) also along the way. Audrey was happy to settle into life with Ron and her children in Muskoka. Audrey loved her home, church, and community in the quaint village of Port Sydney. Audrey and Ron remained in their home there for fifty years. Audrey kept busy with her young family with hockey, figure skating, brownies, guides, and piano. As a family of six the Hube’s travelled Canada extensively. Audrey was dedicated to Ron and his career in education. She was very involved at VK Greer Public School across the road from their home – in the library, as a substitute teacher, and she even provided wonderful daycare for Kara, Alyssa, Johnathan, and Nathan(all children of VK Greer teachers) after her own children were grown. Audrey was also involved in a number of clubs and organizations. Audrey was a member of the UCW. She was the organist and Jr. choir leader at the Knox United Church in Port Sydney. Audrey was also very active in the Huntsville Skating Club. She was secretary for a number of years and chairperson of Skokie Skate. Audrey enjoyed playing basketball and hockey and learned to curl when she lived in Manitouwadge. She continued to curl in Huntsville. Audrey loved watching curling, baseball, football, and hockey. She was Ron’s biggest and most passionate fan when he played hockey. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Audrey loved reading and learning. She was always researching and making detailed notes. Audrey was an avid stamp collector, completed at least one crossword puzzle daily, loved to do jigsaw puzzles and play cards and games, with SCRABBLE being her favourite. Audrey loved gardening, baking, knitting, crafting, and travelling. As much as Audrey was a homebody she loved to see new places and meet new people. She travelled with Ron and her children all across Canada, she travelled to Arizona with Ron and her sister Peggy, and she travelled with her youngest daughter Andrea and her family to Hawaii(several times), Vancouver, Whistler, Calgary, Banff, New York City, Bermuda, London and Windsor, England, and the Netherlands. Audrey loved to experience Afternoon Tea in all the different destinations she visited, although she wasn’t willing to try eel sandwiches in Amsterdam. Her last trip was to Newfoundland – the one last province that her and Ron had never been to – Ron arranged for Audrey to get screeched and she loved it! In 1988 Audrey and Ron bought their own cottage at Sauble Beach – Audrey loved to walk on the beach and watch the sunsets with Ron, read, do puzzles, and play games. She especially loved to have her sister Peggy visit and spent countless hours with her grandchildren making wonderful memories. Audrey and Ron’s family over the years grew to include 8 grandchildren – She was Grandma to Christopher, Ryan, Kari, Pam, and Craig and “Honey” to Connor, Michael, and Nicholas. She was also blessed with five sweet little great grandchildren – Hudson and Audrina, Octavia, Bradley and Breanna. Audrey loved her family dearly – they were her greatest joy. Audrey would do anything for her family, they always came first. Audrey’s finest example of love and devotion as a mother was when she put everything in her life on hold to care for her daughter Penny after she was diagnosed with MS. Audrey(and Ron) took wonderful care of Penny. Audrey moved into Penny’s home to provide extra care and support so Penny could remain at home for as long as she could. When it became necessary for Penny to live at the Bracebridge hospital for FOUR years (until she passed in 2008) Audrey lived there with her. Audrey even had her own bed in Penny’s room. She read to Penny for hours, she talked to Penny for hours. Audrey never left Penny alone unless Ron or another family member or friend was there with her. Her love was tremendous. Our mom’s legacy is how deeply she loved and how easy she was to be loved. Mom was kind, caring, generous, smart, witty, and beautiful. She was honest and real. She was wise – very wise – with her best advice to being married for so long – never go to bed mad at each other. And always to find the good in life. Mom was always positive. She had a long beautiful life and stayed true to herself. Even with some memory loss in the past couple of years Mom’s most endearing qualities still shone brightly – she was lovely, she was funny, she was quite simply, adorable. She was always a pleasure to be around. Our sweet mom will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Her family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and PSWs at Muskoka Landing for their care and kindness. They would like to thank Deanna, Jodi, Linda, and Andrea for their sweet companionship as well. They would like to thank the staff at the Algonquin Grace Hospice for their care and for providing such a peaceful place to spend her final two days here on earth. Her family would also like to thank her very special PSW Shannon who took wonderful care of our mom at home and at Muskoka Landing. There will be a Celebration of Life and Afternoon Tea for Audrey on Sunday, November 5th, 2023 at the Port Sydney Hall from 1-3pm. All are welcome. Audrey’s ashes along with Ron’s will be sprinkled by their family at the place where they first met in Sauble Beach while the sun sets at a later time. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville.
