It is with great sadness that the family of Mary E. Assumpta Roche announce her peaceful passing at the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on October 30, 2024, at the age of 87 years.
Assumpta was a beautiful lady of high principles and great faith who gave generously in the service of her church and community. She spoke often of her students and her love of teaching.
In the past few years, her failing health brought her much suffering which she bore with patient and silent resignation. Those who were privileged to be in her company saw how strong she was and realized how intensely close her union was with God. She did not fear death but relished the idea of her being with God for eternity.
Assumpta meant different things to everyone in her world. She was the baby of her family, and she is now reunited with her whole family. She was a treasured sister, teacher to many children over the years, a good daughter caring for her parents, a precious aunt to her nieces and nephews, and a true friend. She lived her life in service of her true beliefs and now she rests in piece.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories is a large number of nieces and nephews and their families who loved her dearly. Also leaving to mourn is her special friend Barbara O’Blenis, who truly exemplified what friendship really means.
She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Gertrude (Buckle) Roche. Her brothers; James (Mary Jo), Charles (Elaine), Francis (Miriam), Edward (Carol) and sisters; Rita, Marguerite (Sister Edward Mary), Mary (Gerald), Camille (Denis), Gertrude, Teresa (Stanley).
At her request, there will be no visitation taking place. The funeral service is to be held at Sacred Heart Parish, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:30A.M. with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Cremation will be taking place after the service with a burial at Mount Patricia Cemetery, Monday November 4 at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the SPCA or the Children’s Wish Foundation
