November 2, 1935 – February 18, 2023
87 Years
Arthur “Art” John Quiring, 87, of Saskatoon, died February 18, 2023, at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon. He was born November 2, 1935, in Hepburn SK, to John and Helena Quiring, of Mennon, SK, the youngest of 7 children. He accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age and was baptized into the Dalmeny Mennonite Brethren Church.
As a young adult, Art attended Bethany Bible Institute, where he met Eileen (Selma) Hinz. They were married on July 5, 1957, in Waldheim. They were blessed with four children; Lynette, Russell, Reginald and Colleen, as well as 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, through 65 years of marriage.
Art’s interest in farming began as a boy, helping on his dad’s farm near Mennon, SK. After they were married, Art and Eileen moved to Laird, Saskatchewan in 1958 where they farmed for many years. They raised their children there while being involved in their local church and community. He served in various leadership roles at the MB church in Laird and later at Waldheim MB church. In the community, he served on the school board and was an avid supporter of community events. Art had a lifetime love of farming. He began as a mixed farmer and over the years transitioned to grain farming and trucking.
Art and Eileen enjoyed a number of winters in Mesa, Arizona. He loved the warm weather and friends he and mom made, but he also loved driving and seeing places he’d never been before. He was an enthusiastic hockey fan, attending games in person and watching diligently on TV. He loved visiting with friends, new and old and was always ready to “go for coffee”.
Art loved his family and led by example. He was an encouragement not only to his family but to those he met. His involvement in church was always important to him. He loved the Lord and was a man of prayer, faithfully praying for every family member by name daily.
Art is survived by his wife, Eileen Quiring, Saskatoon; children, Lynette (David) Dick, Winona Lake, Indiana; Russ (Esther) Quiring, Laird; Reg (Charlene) Quiring, Saskatoon; and Colleen (Ron) Foth, Saskatoon. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Meagan (Jon) Jones, Indianapolis, Indiana; Melissa (Dylan) Wickersham, Muncie, Indiana; Brooke (Dustin) Ratzlaff, Saskatoon; Jason (Brooke) Quiring, Waldheim; Jocelyn (Anthony) Tucker, Warman; Erin (Taylor) Blagdon, Lake Forest, CA; Will (Rachel) Quiring, Saskatoon; Tim (Mahri) Quiring, Toronto; Chrissy (Brett) Magneson, Saskatoon; Shelby (Oliver) Eberle, Kelowna; Tyler (Rheanne) Foth, Regina; and Laura (Carter) Anson, Radisson; 15 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Sophie Esau, and Viola Neufeld.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Walter and Wilmer, and sisters, Rubina (Pauls) and Louise. Art’s life will be celebrated with a service on Tuesday, Feb 2, 2023, at 2:00pm at the Waldheim Mennonite Brethren Church, with Pastor Kim Worthington officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK.
