It is with great sadness that we announce that Arthur passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on December 29th, 2022, with his family by his side. He has been reunited with his parents, brothers, and sisters. Arthur was the beloved husband of Norma, and loving father to Anne and husband Andrew, and cherished grandad to Alexander, Eric, and Craig.
Born in Salford, Manchester, England in 1927, Arthur grew up during tough economic times and a world war. He served in the Royal Navy just after the conclusion of second world war. He moved to Canada in the early 1950’s with his childhood best friend, the late John Bamber, with whom he had a lifelong friendship. They came in of search of new opportunities. He worked in the music copyright industry where he met Norma. They lived in Bramalea together for over 50 years.
Arthur loved his many family trips back home to England and enjoyed travelling. Arthur loved sports and spent decades playing golf and watching hockey and English football. Arthur loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and tending to his lawn and garden. In his later years he adored the companionship of his darling dog Daisy.
Arthur will be most remembered for his kind heart. He cared profoundly for his family, at home and abroad. He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews.
He famously would reply in conversation to happy things with “that’s lovely.” And that is how we wish for him to remembered. A man who had a happy, long, lovely life.
As per Arthur’s wishes a service will not be held. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
In memory of Arthur the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
