Obituary of Arnie Weston
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Arnold Hazen Weston on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family at Dogwood House, Loch Lomond Village. Born on February 15, 1933, to Harry and Frances (Armstrong) Weston. Arnie lived in Fairfield until 1992 when he and his late wife, Rita moved to Upham.
Arnie is survived by his children: Wanda Allaby (Glen) of Upham, NB, Terry Weston (Sherry) of Pennfield, NB and Stephen Weston (Elaine) of Greer Road, NB; grandchildren: Jason Allaby (Colleen), Geoff Allaby (Colleen), Michelle Weston, Chelsey Taylor (Brad), Jarrad Weston (Meghann) and Rachel Weston (Adam), great grandchildren: Ethan and Matthew Allaby, Jackson Allaby, Tyler Weston, Raelyn, Ellie, Paisley and Remi Taylor, Izabelle and Finnleigh Weston; as well as many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Arnie was the last surviving member of a large family. Besides his parents, Arnie was predeceased by his sisters: Leatha McGrath, Mary Maynard, and Elizabeth Chamberlain; brothers: Lawrence, Arthur, Edison, Fraser, Wesley, Joseph, and James; and special grandson Ryan Terrance Weston.
Arnie started dating Rita, who was the first and only love of his life. We always teased Dad that liked older women because mom was 2 years older than him. They married on June 28th, 1952 when Dad was 19 and Mom was 21. Throughout Dad’s life he was known for having treats for his grandchildren and recently his great grandchildren. Arnie loved hearing a fiddle and was gifted for his 69th birthday with a fiddle and classes from his family. John Kilpatrick was a great friend to Dad and got him going to concerts etc…. playing the fiddle. One of Arnie’s big adventures was playing the fiddle with hundreds of other fiddle players while boating down the Tobique River.
Arnie was known as quite a card player, but his game of choice was crib and heavens he didn’t like getting beat! Arnie enjoyed watching and going to Nascar Races, and as long as a Chev won, he was ok with that. He liked Rick Hendricks’ drivers, and had the opportunity to see some of those drivers’ shops and he was in awe of how clean they were while working in them.
Arnie belonged to the Hammond River Seniors, St. Peters Anglican Church in Upham where he served on Vestry, and looked after the mowing and care of the cemetery, first with Russell Kilpatrick and then Leslie. Arnie also belonged to the Saint Martin’s #30 Masonic Lodge.
Dad was happy as long as long as he was helping or keeping busy. In 2016 Dad chose to go into Loch Lomond Village to be with his love. For a year and a half they were able to be together in a semi-private room on Willow House. It was like a mini apartment, and they enjoyed being able to be together, making many friends with the staff and other residents.
On February 15th, 2018, Dad had to be moved to Dogwood, which is known as Young at Heart, and he certainly was that, because of Mom’s declining health. This was hard on both of them, but Dad spent time everyday with Mom. Dad and Mom showed us what love really was. Dad’s health started declining last fall. Dementia is such a cruel disease.
His family want to thank the special angels that took such wonderful care of our Dad for almost 8 years as a resident. The staff treated him like their own Dad, Grampie or Papa, which were some of the names they called him. The care, compassion and love that was shown to him by the staff on Dogwood was amazing and certainly didn’t go unnoticed. Dad loved you all as much as you loved him.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main Street Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 2:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from St. Peters Anglican Church in Upham, NB. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery that Dad cared for.
Donations in memory of Arnie may be made to the Loch Lomond Village, Recreation Department, St. Peter’s Anglican Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and charitable donations may be made through: ReidsFH.com
