Obituary of Anthony Arthur Mace
Heaven welcomed a faithful servant home. Our beloved, Anthony “Tony” Mace passed away Tuesday January 10, 2023, at Bobby’ s Hospice, surrounded by his family listening to beautiful hymns. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Diane Mavis (Griffin) Mace.
Born in Yorkshire, England on April 24, 1943, he was a son of the late Edmund and Lily Mace. Tony immigrated to Canada at the age of 11 years old with his parents and brother. Tony and Diane were high school sweethearts and began their young married life in Toronto. He was employed for many years as a Quality Control Engineer at Point Lepreau Generating Station until his retirement. Tony enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Sus Golf Club and the YMCA. He was also an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay. Tony was a gentle soul who enjoyed volunteering in the Church Youth Group, Sunday School and Boy Scouts when his children were young. Tony and Diane enjoyed camping, travelling and going for walks and always chose the scenic route for their adventures.
Tony mentored his grandson Kyle in golf at the Sus Golf Club for many years. After nine holes they could often be heard laughing at the local Pizza Delight as they ate lunch. Tony treasured spending time with all his grandchildren and they enjoyed many of the trails in the provincial parks and visits to historical sites and museums. Along with his family Tony liked to spend time on the fairway with golf buddy George Myers.
Besides his soulmate Diane, Tony is survived by his children; Michelle Tayes (Paul) of Hampton, NB, Lisa McCormick (Ken) of Pictou, NS, Perry Mace of Saint John, NB and Matthew Mace (Tara) of Quispamsis, NB, cherished grandfather to 15 grandchildren: Megan, Michael, Kyle, Samantha, Brendan, Mitchell, Jared, Kelsey, Caitlynn, Anna, Madeline, Sophie, Ashton, Liam, Ciera, and 8 Great grandchildren, as well as many extended family and friends.
Tony was predeceased by his parents and his brother Raymond.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the dedicated team of Doctors, Nurses, and caregivers who took care of Tony through the years. Their kindness and caring ways will not be forgotten.
A Thanksgiving to God to celebrate Tony’s life will be held from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 4 Church Avenue, Rothesay, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 2 PM. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119).
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Primate’s World Relief Development Fund (PWRDF), Romero House, Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB.
