In Celebration of
Anthony Francis Viklicky
February 12, 1936 –
May 30, 2023
Anthony or Tony as he was known by most, passed away at his home surrounded by his family at 87 years young, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He fought bravely and courageously. His love of life and family will always be remembered by those who remain. Beloved husband of 61 years to Geraldine (Hanacek), Proud and loving father to Diane Polk (Micheal Cyrwus) and Tony jr. (Nancy Fedele). Brother in law to Henry Hanacek and proud Uncle to Megan Hanacek, David Hanacek and Tara Hanacek. Loving and doting Grandpa (Gup) to his beautiful granddaughter Amber Polk.
Tony was born to Marie (Zlamalova) and Anthony Viklicky Sr. in the small town of Malenovice, in what is now Czech Republic. Tony had a twin brother Patrick, who predeceased him in September 2011. When the twins were 3 years old, the family immigrated to Canada on a work contract with Bata Shoe in Batawa, Ontario. They were one of the first families to settle in Batawa and helped to establish the town. In 1950 the family moved to Toronto and purchased a home on Kipling Ave, in the town of Islington, as it was known at the time. Tony attended Etobicoke Collegiate High School, and later went on to Ryerson Collegiate where he studied business administration. Before retiring at 65, Tony worked with many different companies from his first jobs at Canada Packers, Mercers, and Canada Life Insurance to his later work in purchasing at Owens Illinois, Mattel, Chatteau Gai wines and Garlock Canada. Lastly, but not least, his entrepreneurial dream was fulfilled as the successful owner of Kennedy Lighting in Scarborough, Ontario where he and his wife and children worked in the family business until 2001.
Tony was also creative and passionate about his many hobbies some of which included, photography (as children, we could never escape the lens of his Leica or Rolloflex), his love of canines was lifelong beginning with his first dog Uza, a German Shepard, when he was 15 yrs old and later was reflected in his show dogs and dog shows with his beloved Lhasa Apsos and lastly, with his lovely Mini Pin, Leica. An avid, voracious reader he preferred fact over fiction and would often finish a book in a day when the opportunity arose. Tony loved his garden and particularly his backyard oasis that he designed and cultivated with so much love and the eye of an artist, roses being his favourite flower. Tony loved to exercise and ran 5 miles every day for over 30 years. Later, he continued to exercise by lifting weights and walking on his treadmill until cancer made it impossible for him to continue. He became a bit of a foodie in his later years, eating sushi and making his jumbo, creative salads and becoming quite a dill pickle connoisseur, even trying his hand at an old family recipe from his father.
Tony will be remembered by those who knew him for his hearty, heart felt laugh, his honesty, and generosity, his determination and perseverance, his dedication and loyalty and his bravery and courage when times got tough. Always in our hearts you will be.
Visitation will be on Tuesday June 6th from 4-8pm at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W in Etobicoke. Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church at 11am on Wednesday, June 7th 2023. Interment to follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
