We are saddened to announce that Anne McLachlan nee McCarthy passed away on December 4th , 2024, 8 days before her 89th birthday on 12/12. Loving mother of Stephanie (Kirk), Kendra (Rob) and Angela (Chris). Beloved Grandma to Alissa, Briar, Lauren, Evin, Remy, Emerson and Tru. Great-Grandmother to Ozzy and Fletcher.
Daughter of Alice and John Thomas McCarthy, Nancy (as she was referred to at home) was born in Radcliffe England, she was one of ten children. Anne will be sadly missed by her extended family in England, she loved to visit and longed for one last trip. For countless New Year’s Eves she never missed raising a glass to Cheers England at 7 p.m.
She was previously deceased by Ken McLachlan and although apart for many years remained united in putting family first. Also pre-deceased by Son-in-Law Kirk Dalrymple who was always so quick to lend a hand.
Above all else Anne loved her Girls, she may have been a stoic British woman who liked her tea, English chocolate, her Gin & Tonics but nothing was more important to her than looking after her family. Every once in a while you could get her to laugh that certain laugh and you knew you had done something bad but that she loved it, the three of us loved that laugh and often talked about it. She may then have said “Never….” In her little English accent.
She was happiest sitting in her house with fresh flowers and a pot of chili on the stove waiting for everyone to come over. She was an amazing cook and could cure any hangover with an egg and a perfectly brewed cup of tea…
Anne bravely emigrated to Canada in 1959 with a close friend, she had many adventures and lived in Toronto for a time meeting great friends along the way. During her career at Nova she became close to many co-workers who eventually became friends for life.
Anne faced many challenges in life, from having to return to work full time which she faced with fierce determination and excelled at, to health challenges later in life. Life may have become complicated, but Mom was very loved, knew we would never let her down and always take care of her.
Anne may not have been a huge animal lover but she did love the family dog- Kandy given to her by a friend, donations to the Sarnia District and Humane Society are greatly appreciated (cheques only at the funeral home, please).
There will be no service, but Anne will be returning home to go to a few Pubs with her daughters and to her favourite flower gardens. Forever loved and remembered.
