A determined and courageous woman of intelligence, integrity, and dignity.
After a full and meaningful life, Anne Block Friedman passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 14, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones. Devoted wife of the late Meer Friedman for sixty-two years. Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Debbie Friedman and Barry Slapcoff, Laurence Friedman and Rhonda Madoff. Cherished and proud grandma of Justin Friedman and Talia Abecassis, Jordan Slapcoff and Mandy Etingin, Cory Friedman and Rachelle Lajoie, Lawrence Slapcoff and Lily Dubrovsky, Matt Friedman and Mel Hade. Special great-grandma of Sadie Eve and Harry Meer Friedman, Darla Leia Slapcoff, and Caleb Fred Friedman. Anne was an incredibly devoted daughter of the late Lillian and the late Jack Block, and daughter-in law the late Pessia and the late Chaim Friedman. ‘Guardian angel’ to her late sister, Phyllis Block. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Anita and the late Arnold Block. Adored niece of the late Morris and the late Fanny Segal, the late Rachel and the late Srul Biner. Anne was an educator who always reflected on her teaching years with great pride and joy. She was artistic and creative, enjoyed theatre, loved to read, and was proud to be the matriarch of the family who hosted many shabbat dinners and holiday gatherings. She was always a true fighter and advocate for what she believed was right. Education was important to her as was helping others in need. Anne greatly cherished her family and appreciated the village of special people who supported her during her most challenging years. An enormous appreciation goes to Mona Henri, Cathy Boingiu, Malcolm Henderson and to the late Velma Rose Stephens who cared for Anne like they would for their own mother. Much gratitude to Dr. Nathalie Ng Cheong, Dr. Mathieu Walker, Dr. Morris Schweitzer, physiotherapist Sasha Chubunov, pharmacist Herbert Farkas, and CLSC nurse Bernadine Jackson. Special thanks to David and Sylvana Benlolo. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, March 17 at 12:00 noon. Burial at the Montreal Workers’ Circle Association Cemetery, de la Savane.
