Anne Filipovic (nee Fayrick) passed away peacefully on Friday February 16, 2024 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with family by her side, at the age of 96.
Anne was born on September 19, 1927 in Fort William to Stephen and Sophie Fayrick. She was the youngest of 5 children.
She met the love of her life, Fred Filipovic and they were married June 17, 1950. Together they raised 3 daughters, Caryn, Joanie and Patty.
When Fred passed away unexpectedly in 1974, Anne demonstrated what an incredibly strong woman she was. Prior to his passing, she worked along side her husband in his clothing store, Gents’ Toggery. Later she began as a bookkeeper at Filipovic, Young & Brothers Law Office and continued there until her retirement in 1994. She remained in the home they shared until the age of 91.
Anne loved to play. She could often be found playing tennis or riding around on her bike at Sunnyside where they had a cottage and enjoyed many wonderful times with family. She took great pride in her vegetable garden at home, and feeding her chipmunk friends. She loved telling jokes and could rarely be found without a stylish outfit, her makeup on and her nails done.
Family was the most important part of Anne’s life, always hosting Sunday night dinners and bringing everyone together. She was a wonderful cook, and was often asked to share her secret recipes.
Anne was predeceased by her husband Fred, her parents Stephen and Sophie, her brothers Tony and Frank and her sisters Mary Barabash and Betty Sohasky.
She is survived by her children: Caryn (Ian Dennis), Joanie (David Inglis), and Patty (David Novak), her cherished grandchildren: Tyler (Laura) and Meghan Dennis, Bryson (Mylee) and Connor (Vicky) Inglis, and Nicole (Sean), Ally (Mason), and Adam Novak, and by her two great grandsons: Jack and Sawyer Dennis, who could always bring a smile to her face.
We will miss her sweet but feisty spirit.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of PR Cook apartments for caring for her for the past four and a half years. As well as Eric from Bayshore, who was always so kind to her.
Anne was a devout Catholic and a 50 year member of the CWL. As per her wishes, a private family Mass and interment has taken place.
If friends so desire, donations can made in Anne’s memory to the St. Andrew’s R.C. Church Building Fund at www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/50559.
