It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of the passing our sweet mother, Anna Wanda Dziembor, aka “The Dancing Girl” on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the fabulous age of 97. We are so fortunate to have had her as our mother and are thankful that we were at her side at the time of her passing in peace. She came by the nickname “The Dancing Girl” honestly. She loved to dance, whether it was a traditional Polka at a wedding or dancing in the elevator at the Harold and Grace Baker Centre, that she called “home” for the last 15 years.
As a young girl in her early 20’s, Anna arrived from Poland, to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1948. There, she met and married her handsome soldier, Anton, and they started to raise their family with the births of their 3 daughters = Ursula, Helen and Anna. Life in Halifax could be tough at times, but she did whatever was necessary to make our lives as joyful as possible. Wanting more opportunities for us, she moved the family to Toronto in 1965, where she worked as a seamstress and sewing machine operator – and she was really good at it. Her best work was sewing and crafting leather seating for high end motor boats. She was so thrilled to take us to the annual Toronto Boat Show where she could proudly show us all the boats that included her fine, hard work.
As the years passed she guided her family through all of the fun times as well as times of trouble. She was never one to complain and would say “Well I could complain, but who wants to listen?” Wise words, Mom!
She enjoyed life to the fullest, which included dancing with her friends every Saturday night, many bus rides discovering Toronto, many outings with friends in High Park and lots of family outings and celebrations. Even though she was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease in 2008, she continued to enjoy life to the end. Bingo was her favourite game and we are so happy that she was still able to play the game until a few months ago.
She is sadly missed by her daughters Helen and Anna, grand children Trevor and Piper and great grand-children Maxx, Anna Belle, Theodore, Gabriel and Grace. She is pre-deceased by her oldest daughter, Ursula and her husband Anton We take comfort in knowing they are together now and Mom is probably showing them how to dance.
A Memorial Reception to celebrate Anna’s life will be held at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. W. (2 stoplights west of Yonge St.) on Monday, October 16th from 12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m.
