Anna Verrecchia-Macro, 94, passed away peacefully at the Hôpital du Suroît Valleyfield on May 11th, 2023. Born on November 8th, 1928 in Colli Al Volturno, Italy to Pasquale and Mariassunta.
Anna married her beloved Giusseppe on December 20, 1947. In 1961 they immigrated to Canada with two young children via Halifax on Pier 21, and settled in Montreal.
Anna worked as a seamstress in the clothing district on Chabanel Street where she made many lifelong friends. Her moral conviction and determination prompted her to join her co-workers on the picket lines as, «9000 garment workers take to the streets», it was August 15, 1983. Her dedication certainly showed in a photograph of her the following day printed in the Montreal Gazette!
Anna was a devoted Roman Catholic believing in the power of prayer and enjoyed singing in her church choir.
She became a member of the Italian Golden Age Club of Anjou which she stayed on for 30 years.
Anna was predeceased by her beloved Giuseppe, her parents and her siblings Bettina, Maria, and Domenico. She is survived by her siblings Antonio and Lucia in Italy.
Anna (Nonna) will be deeply missed but always in our hearts by daughter Lucia and son Angelo (Paula), her grandchildren Michael-Joe (Luisa), Annemarie (Tasso), Meaghan (Michael), and Joseph (Kate).
Nonna’s joy were her great-grandchildren Matteo, Marianna, Michael, Georgia, Anna and Tessia.
She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews and her extended family and friends in Montreal and Italy.
Visitation will be at Maison Funéraire Roussin, 12, St-Charles avenue, Vaudreuil-Dorion J7V 2K4 on Wednesday May 24 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm as well as on Thursday May 25 from 11:30 am- 12:00 pm.
On Thursday May 25 a Mass will be celebrated in her honor at St. Patrick of the Island Church, 278 Shamrock Ave, Pincourt, J7W 3W8 at 12:30 pm.
Following the Mass, Anna will be laid to rest with her dear Giuseppe at Notre-Dame -des-Neiges Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the ER staff at the Hôpital du Suroît Valleyfield and the Lakeshore General Hospital for their dedication in caring for Anna.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in her honor to Hôpital du Suroît Valleyfield or
Lakeshore General Hospital Foundations.
