Anna Schoepp (nee Textor), the eldest of three daughters, was born in Warburg, Alberta, on October 18, 1935, to Alex and Mary Textor. Anna’s sisters, Edith and Irene; are both deceased. Growing up in Warburg, Anna’s parents ran a hardware store. She met her spouse, John Schoepp, at Concordia College in Edmonton, while both were in grade 10. Anna and John married on August 18, 1958, in Edmonton. Their first child, Greg, was born in Edmonton, in 1960. The family moved to Grande Prairie in 1962, where identical twins, Lynn and Lee, were born. Both Anna and John worked with the Grande Prairie Public School District, John as a school administrator and Anna a high school business manager.
Anna, for many years, was active with John at Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie, and volunteered at a senior’s center. She enjoyed gardening as evidenced by the brilliant display of flowers in their backyard. A master seamstress, her children often wore the fruits of her sewing and knitting skills. Anna was an avid reader, and a competitive card and game player. Anna liked downhill skiing with the family, and was physically active with swimming and walking until her health began to limit mobility. Anna’s favourite place was the serenity of the family cottage located west of Grande Prairie at Sturgeon Lake where the activity at the bird feeder was closely watched.
In June 2021, Anna and John moved to Edmonton into a retirement residence. By this time, health issues were increasingly affecting Anna’s daily life. On October 2, 2023, Anna was hospitalized and died peacefully at the Misericordia Hospital on October 10 at the age 87. Anna will be remembered for her devotion and love to her family, as well as her kindness, sense of humour, and creativity.
