SERVICE DETAILS UPDATED BELOW
Just after midnight pacific time on February 1, 2024, Ann Louise Mundy entered into eternal rest.
Ann was predeceased by her father, Edmund Fulford, husband, Edward Mundy, Mother Ellen Sarah Fulford (Edy) and her Sister, Leona Schreiber (Fulford).
Ann Louise Mundy (Fulford) was born September 18, 1932, to Edmund Fulford & Ellen Sarah Fulford (Edy) in Brockville, Ontario.
Most of Ann’s life was lived in Brockville where she was also educated.
She was a proud cadet in BCIVS where she sang in the school choir and acted in performances. Ann was awarded a Home Economics Scholarship to the University of Toronto in her last year of highschool. She formed many long friendships during her school years and made many fond memories.
She was an active volunteer in the kitchen of BPH and a life-long member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church.
Favourite pastimes early in her life were skating on the St. Lawrence with her cherished and only sibling Leona (Lee), playing piano, sewing, and knitting.
Ann married Robert Barbour shortly out of highschool in 1951 and they had three children: Carolyn, Nancy, and David.
As a mother, Ann embraced life as a «Skating Mom» (and active member of the Brockville Figure Skating Club). Later she reluctantly became a «Horse Mom» which provided lively memories of jumping competitions which caused her to cover her eyes with regularity. She braved escapee attempts by horses to eat carrots from neighbours’ gardens, crossing railroad tracks on the way. Life was never dull.
Ann acted as a volunteer at Toniata Public School and taught School enrichment cooking classes.
Cooking was a lifelong passion for Ann, whose family and many friends not only benefited directly from years of her culinary acumen but also drew their own inspiration from her talent – some even becoming half-decent (..Ok, passable..) cooks in their own right!
She loved to entertain, always welcoming family and friends with warmth and flair, priding herself on making an amazing meal.
As a young mom, Ann worked as a Dental Assistant to Dr. McBroom of Brockville but her career passion turned toward women’s fashion.
She was working in women’s retail in Brockville when she first met and later married Edward (Tony) Mundy in 1974. They built a new home and pool on a ridge on Oxford Ave where they welcomed family and friends and spent many wonderful years together.
Ann went on to management of a women’s clothing store and later, she and Tony formed a team in a new venture, she as owner, merchandiser, buyer and designer and he, as accountant in a store known as ‘Karie Ann’s Fashions’ in the Thousand Islands Mall.
For over 20 years the women’s wear store was successful and popular amongst it’s patrons.
Ann loved her business and her staff was family to her: Marina, Catherine, Ruth and Joyce..her right-hand ladies.
In retirement and particularly after Tony’s passing, Ann spent many winters with her sister Lee in Florida. Lee returned the visits and the two spent many memorable times together, particularly on a trip to the UK and a gift cruise to Bermuda, from Lee’s daughter Joanne.
During the summer months for almost 10 years, Ann, Ruth, and Judy (dear friends) became a trio who would go off on adventures on the weekends which they never forgot and of which her family heard tales many times over.
Ann’s retirement afforded her many years with family and time spent with daughter Carolyn and her husband Kim before her move to Brentwood Bay, BC at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of her favourite outings was to have dinner or lunch in one of the restaurants overlooking the water in the Rockport area. A favourite meal was BBQ hamburgers at the ‘Farm’, where she enjoyed walks and talking with the horses. She watched and cheered on The Sens hockey team and left the room if the game got too intense!
Ann spent her last few years doing all the things she enjoyed with independence while being lovingly cared for and living with daughter Nancy and partner Brooke. Her favourite outing was a visit to Butchart Gardens, just minutes away from their home. Nancy and Brooke and Ann spent many beautiful times together. One which she recounted with fondness was being treated to ‘High Tea’ at the Empress Hotel for Mothers’ Day.
.
Her best birthday ever was a gathering this past September as she turned 91 and Nancy and Brooke and many neighbours threw her a ‘fashion show birthday’ including the dogs and her special pal ‘Piper’.
Ann was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She listened to her children , as was her nature, and helped them and her family through many of life’s tough choices over the years. She always thought of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families, as well as cousins with whom she kept in touch.
She always found time to knit for everyone right up to just before Christmas this past year.
Over the past three years Ann overcame many health challenges until near Christmas of 2023.
She amazed us all by living life to it’s fullest and enjoying her family.
An Angel got her wings when Mom passed. She was a Special Mom and we all loved her so much; she will stay in our hearts forever.
Ann is survived by her children: Carolyn (Kim), Nancy (Brooke), David (Angie). Grandchildren Michael (Kaitlin), Carly (Sol), Christopher (Destinee), Robbie, Jennifer (Derek), Yvonne and Sharon. Ann is survived by ten Great Grandchildren: Madalyn, Violet, Grayson, Monica, Charlotte, Vinni, Dax, Mary, Beau, and Carmen. Dear Nieces and Nephews Cathy, Steve, Joanne, Sheryl and Jeffrey and their families. One first cousin Mitzi and her family, Second cousins Nigel and Alison and their families. The Mundy Family, John (Mary), Sue, Vicki, Jill and their families. Cousins Jane, John, and Jamie and families.
A graveside service will take place at the Oakland Cemetery, Brockville on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1 pm followed by reception and celebration of Ann’s life at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville.
Send condolences or share a special thought of Ann on the memory wall above.
