It is with great sadness that we announce Ann Marie’s passing; she was in her 93rd year. She has joined her loving husband and soulmate Jim, who passed away just five days prior. Ann Marie was predeceased by her father Frank Young and her mother Catherine Kraatz (Norm), her mother-in law-Alma (Scherrer) Sehl and her dear sister Terry Simon (Al).
Mom is survived by her two children, Diann (Doug) and Stephen (Trish), grandchildren Olivia (Chris), Benjamin and Caleb, as well her stepsister Patty Kraatz. Also her adored nephew David (Donna) Simon and their sons Chad and Todd. Ann Marie and Jim had a 71-year marriage that centered around their faith, their family and their many wonderful friends.
Ann Marie ‘s calling was education and she fully committed herself to this endeavour. She felt that education is the foundation of society. Never having an unkind word to say about anyone and a diplomatic way of handling almost any situation, she sincerely was there for anyone in need.
Ann Marie enjoyed being involved and was a natural at taking the lead if she felt she could help. When Ann Marie did something, she did it well. As a Teacher, her parish St. Agnes Church, Heart Fund, CWL, Right to Life, School Board, Cottagers Association, KofC, Red Hat Club…(I’m sure some are missed) and of course Friend, Wife, and Mother, she shone.
To the dedicated clergy of St. Agnes Church, thank you for giving both Ann Marie and Jim exactly what they would want at their final hours.
A special thanks to all that have reached out, the Support Team from Washington Ave, the Entire Staff at Chartwell as well as at Age Care. We can never express to ALL of you how much comfort you provided to us knowing that Mom and Dad were so well taken care of; your kindness, compassion, professionalism… you all have been a gift to our folks and us as well. This will never be forgotten. Over this last while there have been many wonderful people that have interacted with Mom and Dad, some of these people have gone above and beyond. «There are Angels amongst us.» You are truly Angels, you know who you are, we can’t thank you enough! May God Bless You.
There’s a saying «you get by giving.» Ann Marie was the epitome of that: she gave and gave but what she got back in return was genuine kindness and respect in multiples throughout her life. Mom was the first to admit that she was extremely blessed.
Ann Marie liked to hug. She was a good hugger, and could tell if someone needed a hug.
Ann Marie, your hugs are one of many things that are missed but the lessons and memories you forged will go on for some time. Ann Marie, you leave life on earth a TRUE CHAMPION, you always led by example.

As for all the grammatical and spelling mistakes, Mom this where you came in for me on numerous occasions, one of the thousand reasons I miss you.
Visitation will be held on Thursday August 1st from 6-8 p.m. at Henry Walser Funeral Home at 507 Frederick Street Kitchener. Ann Marie’s funeral will be held on the morning of Friday the 2nd at 11:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Church on Bluevale Ave. in Waterloo. Internment will follow the funeral at Parkview Cemetery on University Avenue in Waterloo.
