Obituary
On Sunday morning, November 17, 2024 we said goodbye to a beloved mother, Yiayia, and friend, Angeliki (Angela) Koumoundouros, who passed peacefully with family by her side at OTMH, just one week before her 89th birthday. She reunites in eternal rest with her late husband, Panagiotis (Peter). She is survived by her devoted family who will forever cherish her memory: her sons George (Maria) and John (Clare), her daughter-in-law Donna, her five treasured grandchildren, Andreas, Alexander, Athan, Eleni, and Peter, along with her twin sister, Katerina in Zoupena, Greece.
Born on November 25, 1935, in Geraki, Laconia, Greece, Angeliki grew up in a loving home of three brothers and three sisters, enduring many post-World War II hardships. In 1963 as with many of the Greek Diaspora, she and her husband immigrated to Canada to build a new life. They settled in Hamilton, joining her two brothers, Mihali (Mike) and Yianni (John), and raised their two sons with love, discipline, and a strong connection to their Greek heritage. While deeply proud of her Greek roots, Angeliki wholeheartedly embraced Canada as her new home and was proud to call herself a Canadian. She cherished the opportunities and sense of community her adopted country provided.
After retiring, Angeliki and Peter moved to Oakville to be closer to their grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She was a devoted grandmother who loved babysitting and was always lending a helping hand. Her family was her greatest source of fulfillment, and she poured her heart into nurturing and supporting them.
Angeliki was also an avid gardener with a remarkable green thumb, spending countless hours tending to her roses and vegetable garden. Her love for gardening reflected her nurturing spirit and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Her kitchen was always full of wonderful aromas, cooking and baking with that dash of grandmotherly magic that made all her dishes unforgettable and infused with love.
She will be remembered as a hardworking, loyal, kind, and compassionate woman who touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her dedication, generosity, and warmth will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on through the countless lives she enriched.
Visitation will be held on Thursday November 21, 2024 at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) from 7 pm – 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Friday November 22, 2024 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 22 Head Street, Hamilton at 11 am. Interment to follow immediately after the service at Woodland Cemetery, 700 Spring Garden Road, Burlington. Following the interment, a lunch to celebrate her life will be provided to all in attendance, in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Hamilton.
