It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Angie Iwasa, 94 years young, on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Hogarth Riverview Manor. She passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Born in British Columbia on April 3,1929, the third of six children to Yone Rose and Ishinosuke Ichikawa. As a young girl, Angie’s family relocated several times but eventually moved to Fort William. Her marriage to home builder Casey Iwasa lasted 61 years until his passing in 2014.
Angie and Casey were active golfers at the FWCC for many years. As Snowbirds, they lived in Blythe, California and Mesa, Arizona where they participated in community events and continued to golf. Thrilled with living in a gated community, Angie demonstrated her unique golf cart driving skills. She enjoyed the social aspect of golf but also accomplished the feat of making a hole in one.
In Thunder Bay, the couple hosted and billeted athletes and were interpreters for the Japanese National Ski Jumping team. Angie was an active member of the Lakehead Japanese Cultural Association.
Thunder Bay’s Bayview Leisure and Lifestyle Magazine Fall 2003 featured Angie demonstrating the art of sushi making to the Airlane Travelodge Hotel chefs. Together they introduced a hands on basic sushi preparation course to foodies and Sushi Wednesdays classes became a hit.
Angie is survived by her sons Glenn (Velvet), Allan and Bruce (Louise). Also survived by grandchildren Cayla (Cameron), Blair, Kai and Mason and great grandchildren, Caden and Cairo. She will be missed by her many friends, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Angie was predeceased by her brothers Kazuo, Dominic, Eugene, and Anthony. She is survived by her youngest brother, Henry, of Toronto.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Echum and the staff of 7 South “Violet” for their exceptional care, kindness and compassion. A special thank you is extended to close friend Inez Black for her daily visits and companionship.
