MASTRANDREA, Amber Lorraine (nee Douglas)
Amber was a fighter, and she is now on a journey to shores of waters that we cannot see. Free from pain, she floats peacefully in the crystal-clear, turquoise waters of her dreams. Just keep sailing, Amber, until we meet again.
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Amber Lorraine Mastrandrea on Monday May 29, 2023. She was taken at the young age of 47 after a courageous battle with cancer. Amber will be lovingly remembered by John, her husband of 16 years, and their 3 children, Amelia, Matteo, and Joey. She was the cherished daughter-in-law of Joseph and Cynthia Mastrandrea and sister of Brenda (Greg) Hertler, Erica (Chris) Douglas and Bill Douglas. She will be affectionately remembered by her nieces, Bianca, Brianne and Victoria, her nephew, Cameron, and her uncle and aunt Ron (Pam) Douglas. She is survived by her parents, John and Victoria Douglas. Amber was born in Chippawa (Niagara Falls), Ontario. She graduated from A.N. Myer and later headed to Toronto to earn a bachelor’s degree from York University and start her career. Shortly after, Amber moved back to Niagara Falls and began her position at Falls Family Dental, where she worked for 21 years. She treated every patient with kindness and fulfilled her duties until it was impossible to do so. Her big heart and infectious smile will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Amber was the driving force behind countless family dinners for holidays, special events, and even simply for the sake of getting everyone together. She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and compassionate. Amber was strong-willed and selectively stubborn – traits that defined her character. She enjoyed family vacations to the tropics and often passionately reminisced about her numerous travels through Europe and the Mediterranean. Whether it was skiing with Amelia or attending Matteo and Joey’s hockey games, Amber was an integral part of her family. Although she loved ‘the idea’ of boating and fishing, her true passions were cycling, reading, skiing, spending time at the cottage and paddle boarding with family and friends. Amber’s unwavering faith in God bestowed on her the courage to deal with all the challenges she faced in her final months and years of life. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Perry and his team at Sunnybrook Hospital, as well as the staff at Hospice Niagara. Special thanks are in order to Father Greg Schmidt and Amber’s spiritual family. Her family is also unimaginably grateful to Amber’s amazing circle of friends, neighbours and co-workers who all stood strong by her side. Friends are invited to join her family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls on Sunday June 4, 2023, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm. Vigil prayers with Deacon Jack Giroux will be held at 3:30 pm at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday June 5, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Julia Church (251 Glenridge Avenue, St. Catharines).
