Allen (Al) Martin Leeder, a devoted and cherished father and grandfather, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family at Northumberland Hills Hospital. He is deeply and profoundly missed by his daughters, Donna Leeder and Lori (Steve) Nichol and son-in-law Rob Smith (Darlene 1993)
Al was the proud grandfather (grumpa) of four granddaughters: Megan (Mark) Noel, Carly (Nathanael) White, Samantha (Nathan) Leeder and Jessica Leeder and great grandfather to 14 great grandchildren.
Born on May 8, 1942 in Etobicoke, Ontario, Allen spent his childhood living on Horner Avenue in the Alderwood area of Etobicoke. He grew up with his 3 brothers, William ‘Bill’ (d.2015), Bryan ‘Harley’ and Eric (d.) and 1 sister Karon.
At the age of 26 Al was the proud and deeply devoted father to 3 daughters, Darlene (d.1993), Donna and Lori. He never missed an opportunity to let his children know that his greatest joy and accomplishment was raising and loving them.
Al was a career Canada Post Employee (Postie) and in retirement started an Admail business and purchased a 100acre property north of Belleville. After a few years he sold his part of the business and began the dream challenge of his life – building a house from the cinder blocks all the way to the shingled roof. In 2002 he sold his property and moved to a house in Bewdley with a view of Rice Lake. He spent his years in Bewdley hosting family dinners and making many friends throughout Northumberland County. His friends have memories of Al that are filled with his incredible smile, sense of humour and kindness. He was always referred to as a ‘great guy’.
Al loved to dance and thoroughly enjoyed singing the ‘golden oldies’. He had a passion for traveling with a truck and trailer; letting the road take him where it wanted – He always said it was the journey that he enjoyed. As an elderly bachelor, Al truly appreciated and cherished the company of his friends and family.
He was a quietly religious man, so we will honour his faith and celebrate his life on Saturday March 16 at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg, at 1:00pm, with a service and reception.
