Obituary
Christie, Allan Roy – 78, Clyde River. It is with great sadness that we announce Allan’s passing on June 6, 2024, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Moncton, NB on June, 19, 1945, he was the second son of the late John Christie and Thelma (Snow) Christie. Allan moved to Clyde River, NS in 1952. At a young age he developed a love for the automotive trade and motorsports. He began his working-life with his brother before opening up his own automotive repair shop, Allan Christie’s Body Shop, in Barrington, NS. Any extra time that he had was spent building and racing stock cars across the Maritimes, Eastern Ontario and even the Northeastern United States, often competing against his older brother. After his stock car racing days, he become involved in 4×4 truck racing, a community that continues to grow to this day. After Allan finished his own racing career, his love of the sport continued as he travelled with his wife and two boys throughout the East Coast of the United States. On these family trips they would watch NASCAR and other motorsport-related events with locations including Charlotte N.C., Bristol, TN, and Daytona Beach, FL. Allan was involved at his shop on a daily-basis, even after retirement. He kept busy entertaining customers and going on tow calls. Allan was always lending a helping hand wherever he was needed. His love for his family showed through the time he dedicated attending their countless sporting and racing events. Allan was well-known and loved throughout the community and beyond for his kindness and generosity. Whether it was a tow-call in the middle of the night or helping some out of a snowbank during a blizzard, he always sacrificed his time for others. The friendships that Allan built throughout the years are countless and stories about him are endless. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Sharon (Sutherland) Christie, his two sons Paul (Susan), Port Saxon, NS; Wade, Clyde River, NS; grandchildren, Conor, Tanner, Kobe, Meghan, and Morgan; one great-granddaughter, Rhoda, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Allan was predeceased by his brother Carman, and nephew Dwayne (Dickie). The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital and Roseway Hospital. We would also like to thank all the family and friends who visited with Allan during his lengthy illness. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Barrington. In keeping with Allan’s wishes there will be no formal visitation or funeral service. In lieu of a service, a Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on July 6, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. at the River Hills Golf & Country Club, Clyde River. Interment will take place at Clyde River Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Clyde River Society and Cemetery, or charity of your choice.
