He is loved and sadly missed by his two sons Glen & his wife Syndi of Penetanguishene and Keith & his wife Amy of Elkford, B.C. Loving Grandfather of Mirjam, Mandy, Mathew and Hailey. As well will be missed by his great granddaughters Sydney and Jayne. Ole was predeceased by his parents John and Edith Johansen and his siblings Margaret, John and Ric. Ric had 3 children, Ole’s namesake Alan Ray, Cinda and Gina. Gina was instrumental in keeping Ole involved and informed with goings on of the Johansen clan here and abroad. Ole will be sadly missed by the many other friends and family across Canada and Europe. Cremation has taken place.
Allan Howard Johansen was born June 26, 1938 in Prince Rupert, B.C. In 1957 he left the fishing and logging industry to join the Royal Canadian Air Force. At the R.C.A.F Recruit School he was renamed «Ole» because of his Nordic looks – the name he is known today. Ole began his career as an Airframe Technician and crewman of 103 Search & Rescue aircraft at R.C.A.F Station Greenwood, N.S. Ole married Doreen Margaret (Perrault) in her home town of Midland, Ontario, on July 25, 1959. They had three boys, Brian Everett, Glen Allan and John Keith. With a growing family to support Ole decided he needed to go back to school and become an officer. Studying and working full time and with the encouragement and support of family (especially his wife Doreen). Ole graduated from the U of A in 1970 and from then on worked as a military engineer (Mile). The military afforded Ole along with Doreen to not only see the world but live it. One of their happiest postings was in Germany. Fully embracing the lifestyle Ole and his family traveled much of Europe together. Ole and Doreen had memorable anniversaries in London, Rome and Paris. Ole could also be seen sporting his authentic lederhosen at events and volksmarches (a favorite weekend outing for Doreen and Ole, not so much for his sons).
Upon retirement Ole could be seen gardening and serving as a board director with the National Air Force Museum of Canada, 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, Ontario. Ole and Doreen also kept up their travels together enjoying the sunny side of the Caribbean, road trips across Canada to see family and generally just enjoying each other’s company as it always has been.
Later in life Ole traveled to NFLD as a bucket list item and got back to his roots with a visit of family in Norway.
A Graveside Service will be held at Whites Cemetery, Trenton on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 1 pm with reception to follow at the Weaver Life Centre, 29 Bay Street, Trenton. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the National Air Force Museum of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
