Allan Leroy Doncaster passed Nov 21
2023.
Allan was born in Amherst, N.S. May 25,
1927.
Son of Leslie Doncaster and Vera
(Higgins) Doncaster, he was the last of 3 sisters June Jackson,
Rosemound Calder, Betty Denier, and 1 brother Gordon Doncaster, all of
whom preceded him.
After working carpentry with his father
for a few years, Allan gave his 1 day notice and moved to Toronto,
working at Reliable Toy Company.
After a year he came back to Amherst to
sneak Ghlee Mattinson (soon to be his wife) back to Toronto on his
motorcycle. They were part of the Humber Valley Motorcycle club going
on many bike runs and travels.
When they moved back to Amherst Ghlee
and Allan were married and raised 2 boys, Roger and
Neal.
They proceeded to take vacations and
travel across Canada and many American states. After retirement they
enjoyed exploring a dozen European countries as well as winters in
Florida. As they reluctantly slowed down in their 80’s and
90’s they restricted themselves to the East coast, Cuba and
the Dominican Republic.
He always enjoyed the cottage he built
in 1957, where he swam, canoed, sailed, power boated, water skied
and did lobster fishing. He continued to hunt and fish,
often using the Centennial project log cabin he built in Mansfield.
For fun he skated, rollerbladed , played street hockey, played pool,
bowling, tennis and badminton.
Allan was a kind and gentle man, with a
subtle sense of humor, easy to be around; except when playing cards,
there he played to win. As the son of a contractor he built many
things including motor boats, a hydroplane, and his new home in 1970.
His favorite part of working at Enamel and Heating for 36 years was
creating jigs and tool to solve specific problems. Over the
years he always helped others with their projects and when he retired
he would wonder around his home with a tool in hand, looking for
something to fix.
He caught Covid in the spring and while
he got to enjoy another summer at the beach, he never recovered and
passed 6 weeks after moving back to town.

supervision of the Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS
