Obituary
It is with great sadness and greater love that the family of Alice Marie (nee Robinson) Tschabold announces her passing at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre – Long Term Care on June 1, 2023 at the age of 87. Alice was born at Rimbey, Alberta to William Edgar Robinson and Alma Beryl Clipsham on October 21, 1935. She was the seventh of nine children and attended school at Aurora, Milner BC, Leedale, Benjamin, and then Rimbey for high school.
There were many stories of Alice’s early years with her family on the farm at Aurora, with a number of them being around horses. Alice, her sister Donna, and her brother Bud rode a Shetland pony to school at Aurora. Her father’s illness necessitated the move to Milner, BC in 1946, but after a year they moved back to Leedale, and he passed away when Alice was only 15. Alice’s mother was her role model, and Alice’s determination and hard work along with the importance of family, faith, and community were traits that Alice maintained throughout her life.
Alice met Raymond Tschabold at a Halloween costume dance in 1951 and they were married on November 11, 1953 at the Rimbey United Church. In 2022 they celebrated their 69th anniversary. They bought their farm northeast of Rimbey in 1954 and started their farming life. The existing log house and lean-to addition was home until a new house was built in 1960. Son Frank arrived in 1955 and daughter Yvonne in 1958. Alice went to work at the drug store in Rimbey in 1966 and continued to work there until she retired in 1993.
Life was busy between working in town and duties at home and on the farm. Time was always found though for family, fun, and friends with socializing and gatherings of all types. There were many conversations over tea, phone calls, card games, dances, parties, celebrations, fishing and camping trips, reunions, and travels. Time was always set aside for her precious grandchildren, and in later years the great grandchildren. Alice was an accomplished seamstress, and an excellent cook, and took great pride in her collections of wild flowers in the yard. She volunteered her time at the hospital, with the horticultural society, at the blood donor clinic, and at the Rimbey United Church in various capacities over the years, including 25 years with the Sunday school. Alice was devoted to her family, her friends, her church, and her community.
Alice encountered her share of challenges, tragedies, and health issues through her 87 years. She always rose above these challenges with her faith, her zest for life, and her positive attitude. She was always thinking of others before herself. Alice set a loving example for those she has left behind.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Alice will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by Raymond, her devoted husband of 69 years; son Frank (Wilma); daughter Yvonne (Carl); granddaughters Ileana (Alan), Camille (Austin), Dancey (Paddy), and Nikki (Jason); grandson Jason (Megan); many great grandchildren; sister Donna; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Issie; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Also survived by Alicia.
Alice was predeceased by her parents Ed and Beryl, her brothers Art, Edgar, Gordon, Alexander, and Bud, her sisters Jean and Dora, and her grandson Jay.
A Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held at Rimbey United Church on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Marco Williams-Ste-Marie officiating. Interment of ashes to immediately follow the service at West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ellis for her excellent care of Alice, and to thank the staff at both Valleyview Manor, and Rimbey Long Term that cared for Alice.
