Alice Lee Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Akke (Alice) Lee (nee Joukema) with her family by her side on Wednesday January 3, 2024 at the Toronto General Hospital, at the age of 74. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 51 years Bruce Lee (September 29, 2021).
Alice is survived by and will be greatly missed by her loving daughters Maureen and Stacey (Scott) and her grandchildren Jacob and Grace who were her pride and joy.
Survived by her siblings Anne DeWitte, Betty (Joe) VanEden and John (Lennie) Joukema along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Teakele (Ted) and Martha Joukema and her brother-in-law Auke DeWitte.
Alice was born in Friesland, The Netherlands and came to Canada with her family when she was 2 years old (spending most of her life residing in Milton). She was an RNA at Allendale Long Term Care for 35 years (retiring at age 55) – she loved her residents and caring for them.
Alice met the love of her life Bruce in 1968 and from that moment on they were inseparable. They did everything together and their love for each other was evident to all who knew and loved them.
Alice was a selfless woman who would do anything for anyone. She loved to dance, travel, cook and to spend time at the casino but most of all she loved her family and friends.
Alice went through a lot, health wise, in the past 9 years but through it all you would never hear her complain. It would be wrong to say that Alice “lost her battle“ because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Alice stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. She was a true “warrior”!!
Family and friends will be received on Saturday January 20, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at which time a memorial service to celebrate her life will take place in the chapel at McKersie and Early Funeral Home, 114 Main St. E., Milton (905) 878-4452. If desired, memorial donations to the University Health Network, Toronto General Hospital Respiratory Clinic, The Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation or The Salvation Army would be appreciated.
