Alexis Bridgette Amy Elizabeth McKay was called home to be with the Creator at the age of 39 years on Sunday, July 23rd, 2023. She is rejoining her maternal great-grandparents Alexander & Elizabeth McKay (nee Desnomie); maternal grandparents Donna Lavallee (nee McKay) & Eric Lavallee; paternal grandparents Norman “Squeak” Lerat & Audrey Lerat (nee Delorme), maternal aunty Celita McKay, uncle Paul McKay, beloved brother Anthony Bellegarde, beloved special sister Paige McKay & special step-father Clark Sangwais.
To celebrate her life here she has her mother Karen Bellegarde (nee McKay), father Arthur Lerat (Donna), special step-fathers Michael Bellegarde & Frank Peepeetch, sisters Celita Peepeetch (Mark) & Elizabeth Lerat (Shone), brothers Chance Peepeetch (Emily), Garret Pasap (Jen), Alec Lerat (Stacy), and Preston Lerat, sons Levi McKay, Kyle McKay, Christopher Cyr, & Rylen Cyr, daughters Ava Cyr & Tierra Cyr, special beloved granddaughter Emery Kaiswatum, the fathers of her children Trevor Cyr and Adrian Sangwais, and special sisters Sherrie Bellegarde (nee McKay) (Sheldon), Alana Cappo (nee Starr, McKay) (Anthony), Tara Bellegarde-Paskimin (Russell), & special brothers Aaron McKay (Kristen), Christian McKay (Aleece), Paul Jr. McKay, Keenan Shingoose, & special step-brother Clark Sangwais Jr. along with numerous beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, special brothers and sisters and friends.
Amy, as she was well known as, was a loving mother who cherished her children and granddaughter more than anything else. She lived her life her way: to the fullest and filled with love for everyone she knew.
Join her family in a celebration of her life with a wake on Tuesday, August 2, 2023 at 4 pm in The Hub, Peepeekisis Cree Nation. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 11 am in the same location, with interment to follow in the Peepeekisis R.C. cemetery. Traditional Elders will be officiating with additional words by Sister Bernadette Feist.
The family would like to send a huge thank you to her Band of Cowessess, as well as the Bands of Little Black Bear and Peepeekisis First Nation where she grew up and spent most of her youth. Kichi-Ninaskomantinawāw.
