It is with heavy hearts the family of Alexandria Petersen announce her passing at Toronto General Hospital on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the age of 79. Alexa fought fiercely, but she knew it was time to go home to once again be with her husband Soren Petersen who passed in 2000 and her son Scott Petersen. She is the very proud mother to John (Kristine) Petersen and Kirsten (Branden) Wherry. After going through the grief of losing her first husband, Alexa was able to find new love with her partner Harold Tharme. Together, they shared 17 wonderful years of partnership. Cherished grandma to Brianna (Matt), Dakota (Lexi), Chase (Aliza), Meagan, Ivy and Chloe and great- grandmother to Isla, Isabella, Bentley, Jackson and Grayson. Alexa will be deeply missed by so many extended friends and family.
Alexa lived a quiet, humble and tidy life. She often found comfort in ensuring that her surroundings were kept to absolute perfection. This did mean that often, you would find her rearranging all the furniture in the house until it was ‘just so’. The only furniture pieces you could ensure wouldn’t move was the washer and dryer. She was known for her kind and generous heart, always thinking and caring for others. However, she was also a woman of proud Scottish heritage and she was not afraid to speak her mind and put you in your place when it was needed. Her mother and father immigrated from Scotland, they settled in Quebec to raise their family on a farm. Alexa, was the youngest of 6 and at the young age of 18, she moved to Cobourg to start her life. It was here that she met a young milkman delivering milk to her home. It did not take long before the two fell in love and eventually married. It was at this time they decided to expand and raise their own family. Alexa took a great deal of pride in hosting every Thanksgiving and every Christmas. Her greatest joy in this world was spending time with her family. Alexa was a mother with a soft heart and she often worried about her children and grandchildren. She loved them all so deeply. Every week she looked forward to her phone calls with her children and if you happened to miss making this phone call, she wasn’t afraid to let you know. The only time phone calls were prohibited was during her Coronation Street time. While her family brought her so much joy, Alexa also enjoyed keeping herself busy with many hobbies. She collected candles and enjoyed time in her garden. She was an Elvis Presley fan through and through. She loved finding beautiful antique pieces of furniture and enjoyed being a homebody. In the summer she spent time at the cottage making wonderful memories. She also recently took up a fondness to penguins and started collecting little plushie penguin toys. She would even set up the little penguin toys right beside her in the living room so that they could watch Coronation Street too.
Alexa led an extraordinary and radiant life. She touched and impacted the lives of all those around her and she will be so dearly missed. There is peace in knowing she is in God’s care. A service in memory of Alexa will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11:00AM with a one-hour visitation prior. Friends and family will then be welcomed to the reception lounge following the service until 2:00PM. The family will be having a private family burial at Coburg Union Cemetery where Alexa will be laid to rest along side her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association or the Salvation Army Community Church.
