If a life is measured not by riches amassed, but by the enrichment of the lives of others, then Alex lived a great life in the company of many great people. He had a tremendous capacity to enjoy life. He was compassionate, generous with his time, gentle, and wise. He found something of value in all people and new experiences. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Ruth, son Donald and his spouse Tracey, son James and his spouse Lynn, daughter Carolyn and her spouse Debbie, grandchildren Andrew (Victoria), Emily and Laura, brother Doug and his wife Sue. Alex is also survived by his in laws Grace Broomfield, Norman Thornton, Ella Merlin, Ken and Edna Waldie, Joe and Gladys Bailey and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his parents Gordon and Edith and his brother Bill. Alex spent his entire career with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce retiring as an Executive Vice President and Chief Inspector in 1993. During his career he found time to serve on the Boards of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and later on the National Board. Since retirement, he served on the Boards of Northumberland Hills Hospital and Legion Village Inc. Friends are invited to call at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St., E., Cobourg on Sunday June 9th from 3 – 6 pm.
A funeral service will be held in the funeral Home on Monday June 10th at 12 noon. Interment in Vernonville Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.
