Aletta «Jean» Macumber
1931-2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Aletta «Jean» Macumber of Utopia NB, in her
93rd year, on May 26, 2024 at the Saint John
Regional Hospital, Saint John NB. Wife of the late Clinton Burton
Macumber, she was born in Philips Harbour NS on October 14, 1931, the
daughter of the late Joseph and Lelia Grant.
Jean is survived by her four daughters: Brenda Macumber-Young
(Richard) of Pennfield NB, Karen Wheeler (David) of Seeley’s
Cove NB, Korina Macumber-Hooper (Greg) of Lake Utopia NB and Angela
Scovil (Peter) of Canal NB; one son: Clinton Andrew Macumber of St.
Andrews NB; seven grandchildren: Lindsay Leavitt (Ian), Ashley Craig
(Cody Tucker), Amanda Hennessey (Shaun), Bryanne Hatt, Grant Wheeler
(Allie), Nicholas Shaw and JD Hooper; her great-grandchildren: Dylan
and Liam Leavitt, Molly and Freya Hennessey, Harley and Nova Hatt and
Charlotte Shaw; her sisters: Joice Mitchell of Beaver Harbour NB and
Debbie Carvell (Gary) of Beaver Harbour NB; several nieces, nephews
and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was
predeceased by brothers: Donald, Frank, Reginald, Herbert, Barry and
Edward; and by two sisters: Joan Wright and Betty
Flavin.
Prior to retirement, Jean worked side by side with her
husband Clinton as co-owners of Clint’s Milk Mart in
Pennfield. Jean loved her family and devoted her time to taking care
of them. She loved nothing more than to be in the company of her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean loved to bake, read, and
in her younger years, enjoyed being out tending to her garden. When
able, she could be found watching the birds from her sunroom. She will
be sadly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Sabrina
Vance and Dawn Winters of Home Support Services for their special care
and love you showed to our mother. Thank you to Eastern Charlotte
Extra Mural for all their compassion throughout the years. We wish to
also thank Dr. Hemmings and all the staff of the Palliative Care Unit
of the Saint John Regional Hospital for the exceptional care our
mother received.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with
Jean’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private family
graveside service will take place at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery,
Pennfield NB at a later date. In Jean’s memory, in lieu of
flowers, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would
be greatly appreciated by the family.
As a family we take comfort in knowing that she is flying
free with the Angels that loved her.
