CAWLEY, Mary “Aldeen” (née Skene) – Passed away at Victoria Manor on Friday July 7th, 2023. At the age of 95, Aldeen was the beloved wife of the late Harman Cawley, fondly referred to as “his copper penny”. She was Mother to Brad Cawley and the late Jill Hone. Loving grandmother to Jennifer Kalka (Shane), Kurt Hone (Meghan) and Christine Hone (Patrick). Dearest great-grandmother to Owen and Jaide Kalka, Peyton Hone, Gabrielle, and Annabelle Nicholas. Aldeen is predeceased by her dearest friends Jim and Claire Rainbow, her parents Thomas and Mary Skene and siblings Ella, Margaret, Gordon, and Lily. She will be sorely missed by her extended family in “Clan Skene”.
Aldeen will be best remembered for being five-foot-two with eyes of blue and for being Harman’s «Coochie Coochie Coo». Her fantastic sense of humor and her notoriously fiery whit became her trademarks and only seemed to sharpen with time. On any given day she would greet you with an eager smile and question “Hello, what do you know?” or “Who do I have today?». Aldeen’s ever practical nature and her desire to care for her loved ones, saw that you never leave a visit empty handed. From custom hand-knit socks to ‘spegget’ or toilet paper, Aldeen spread her love by giving and there was never a doubt that you where in her thoughts often. Despite her small stature, Aldeen was a fighter to the core. Her strength, strong will and determination never faltered when facing life challenges as she would lead with a good chuckle and the warmth of her smile. She would often joke that family and friends were «all nuts from the same crazy tree and you had to be one to know one!». In celebration of the long and full-life Aldeen has lived, she is lovingly wished peace and joy as she reunites with so many lost loved ones on the other side.
In keeping with Aldeen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and an interment at York Cemetery will take place at a later date. If desired, a memorial donation to the CNIB would be appreciated by the family.
