Alberta’s Obituary
Passed away peacefully, at Hardy Terrace in Mt. Pleasant, Ontario on March 20, 2024 in her 95th year. Alberta was the third eldest of 7 children of Fielder and Martha Harvey (nee Parkin). Born in the Oneida Township of Haldimand County, Alberta grew up there on the family farm. After attending high school in Caledonia, Alberta trained at St. Peter’s Infirmary in Hamilton in Practical Nursing in Geriatrics and worked at the Mountain Brow Hospital until she married Lorne in October 1949. Lorne had a farm in Onondaga Township on the Baptist Church Road. In February 1969, they moved to a farm on the St. George Rd just south of the village of St. George where they continued to dairy farm until the spring of 1987. She was predeceased by her husband, Lorne, her daughters Pauline Fair (stillborn), Eileen Askin and Hilda Fair (Paul Parkhill), and sons Lloyd (Anne) and Lyle (Jill). She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Haber (Don), Betty Harper (Paul – deceased) and son, Howard Fair. She is survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great children. She was predeceased in death by her six siblings (Wilmer Harvey, Dorothy Bain, Alva Fair, Raymond Harvey, Norma Sharp and Elizabeth MacDonald).
Throughout Alberta’s life, she was very active in her churches – Sunday School teacher, organist, choir, Pioneer Girls, and Mary Haddow Mission Circle. Women’s Institute was a big part of Alberta’s life. She was a member and held all the different administrative roles during her 72-year membership.
Volunteering gave Alberta great satisfaction. Throughout her life, she volunteered at the following groups and organizations: 4-H, Paris Agricultural Society, CNIB board, Friendship House – Brantford and the Well-Being Team – St. George Branch. In 2013, Alberta was presented with the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Pin in recognition of all the volunteer work she had done throughout her lifetime.
Although she loved to help others, Alberta always put her family first. She was a wonderfully loving and caring mother to her seven children and all her grandkids and great grandchildren. Nothing gave her more pleasure than watching them play hockey or baseball, cooking for them and with them and caring for them.
Friends will be welcomed at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, Tuesday April 2, 2024 from 10 – 11 am. A Memorial Service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11 am. In accordance with Alberta’s expressed wishes, cremation has already taken place. In Alberta’s memory, donations to Camp Onieda would be appreciated by the family.
