Albert Rechsteiner of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 15, 2024, in his 77th year.
Husband of Verena (Nef) Rechsteiner who predeceased him in 2020. Father of Andreas & Sandra Rechsteiner (Stephanie and Samira), and Thomas Rechsteiner (Sonja and Katja). Brother of Peter & Ruth Rechsteiner, and Ueli & Elizabeth Rechsteiner. Albert will be lovingly remembered by Verena’s family. Predeceased by his parents Albert & Hanni Rechsteiner.
Albert grew up in a small village near Elgg Switzerland, he married Vreny on Sept 5. 1969 and a short 9 months later on Groundhog Day their first son Andy was born, followed by Thomas 3 years later. Albert had a love of horses so by no surprise he joined the calvary for his mandatory military service with the 18 squadron. That’s where he was able to buy his horse “Zoettle” which was his companion for over 20 years. Together with Vreny, he founded the local folk dancing club (Volkstanzgruppe Elgg) and remained honorary president. He was a member of Reitverein Elgg und Umgebung and Aschermittwochgesellschaft Elgg, he also served as Fire Chief for the town of Hagenbuch, and in his spare time he still had time to farm! Albert was a true farmer by heart, he loved working with the cows as much as doing field work, he always had to be the first in the field in the spring to get the neighbours worked up. He had seen a lot of changes in his life, from milking by hand to robots, from working the land by horse to tractors. Cutting hay and planting was his thing, there was no stopping him even in his last years or when he could barely walk and needed a hip replacement. In 1988, he moved his family to a farm near Listowel and started Swisslane Farms where he was able to live until almost his last days. He lost his wife Vreny almost 4 years ago and it has not been easy on him. Albert loved his family and loved being an Opa to his grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
Private arrangements have been entrusted to Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel with interment in Molesworth Cemetery.
