Obituary of Alan Edward Kelly
It is with great sadness that the family of Alan Edward Kelly, husband of the late Doreen (White) Kelly, announce his peaceful passing on May 30, 2024 at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB.
Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on December 4, 1930. He was the son of the late Berneice (Tooker) Kelly and adopted son of Robert J. Kelly.
After high school graduation, he found employment with Pitfield Mackay Ross in Saint John, which transitioned to Dominion Securities. Upon leaving Dominion Securities, Alan worked in accounting with Parkway Mercury in Saint John until his retirement.
Through the years, Alan volunteered with many organizations. He was President of Quispamsis Elementary School Home and School, Chairman of Quispamsis Local Improvement District, and the first Mayor of Quispamsis. He was involved with the United Way of Greater Saint John in the payroll division, Finance Committee of Diocesan Synod of Fredericton, Treasurer of Quispamsis Seniors, Member of the Vestry of. St. Augustine’s Church, and active with Quispamsis Communities in Bloom. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hiking, and his vegetable garden. He also loved playing cards and games. In later years, he and Doreen loved to travel to many places, even driving twice across Canada and the USA. He visited Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Egypt, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, and numerous times to Florida. Alan enjoyed cruises; going to Alaska and the Panama Canal, and various bus tours. Many of these trips were with sister-in-law Verna and her husband Jimmy Baxter. He also had a great fishing trip to the Yukon with his brother-in-law Gerald White and two memorable off-grid fishing adventures to Kenauk Nature in Quebec with his three sons. In later years, he enjoyed taking family and friends to St. Martins and the Fundy Trail Parkway including treating many friends and relatives to lunches at the Hearst Lodge. Alan was a good caring family man for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all extended relatives. He was also known to anyone else who knew him as a true gentleman with his cute mischievous smile right to the day he passed.
Alan is survived by his children; daughter Lynne Woolnough(David), sons; Stephen (Mary), Jamie (Leonora), and Shawn (Dawna), beloved grandchildren; Fauna Osborne (George), Daelyn Zanatta (Dave), Freeman Woolnough (Ogake), Michelle Kelly (Mike), Nicole Kelly, Nicholas Godwin-Kelly (Kaila), Andrew Godwin-Kelly (Laura), Geny Rago, Hoby Rago (Arlene) ,Alisha Plewes (Nathan), Megan Leslie (Jonathan), Daniel Kelly, and his great grandchildren; Kylee Osborne, Trinity Osborne, Graeme Zanatta, Huru Woolnough, Carter Duffy, Reese Duffy, Owen Jones-Robinson, Sadie Sullivan, Layke Godwin-Kelly, Allister Leslie, Andrew Leslie as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides his wife, Alan was predeceased by his step brother Robert Kelly (Barb) and by his great-grandson Cayden Osborne.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nursing home staff at Passamaquoddy Lodge for their dedicated caring of Dad over the past 21 months as well as the staff of Shannex Parkland in the Valley with both places creating lasting memories for Dad, family and friends.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (506-849-2119) with a visiting Reception on Thursday, June 6th from 1:15pm – 2:45pm. Funeral Service will follow at 3:00pm. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed by clicking on the provided link. Internment at Hardings Point Cemetery immediately following.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to St. Augustine’s Church, the KV Food Basket or Passamaquoddy Lodge.
